Development of affordable catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) represents a central task for advancing electrochemical systems such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries. This study reported the ORR and HER performance of a set of single cluster catalysts (SCCs) with atomically dispersed 3d/4d/5d transition metal cluster (TM) embedded in a two-dimensional (2D) defective CrSe substrate. Distinguishing from the conventional SCCs with positive charge active center, the unique electronegativity discrepancy between the metal clusters and the substrate renders the active center controllable charge states from negative to positive.

Building two-dimensional (2D) vertical van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) is one of the effective methods to regulate the properties of single 2D materials. In this paper, we stack the hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) monolayer (ML) on the SnSe ML to construct the stable h-BN/SnSe vdWH, of which the crystal and electronic structures, together with the optical properties, are also analyzed by the first-principles calculations. The results show that the h-BN/SnSe vdWH belongs to a type-I heterostructure with an indirect bandgap of 1.

Several functional imaging studies have investigated the regional effects of sleep deprivation (SD) on impaired brain function; however, potential changes in the functional interactions between the cerebral hemispheres after SD are not well understood. In this study, we used a recently validated approach, voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC), to directly examine the changes in interhemispheric homotopic resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) after SD. Resting-state functional MRI (fMRI) was performed in 28 participants both after rest wakefulness (RW) and a total night of SD.
