As a primary approach to address feature selection problems, evolutionary algorithms have been widely proposed to deal with the problem. Most of these methods are designed to find a single feature subset. However, the optimal feature subset within a dataset is often not unique, indicating that feature selection exhibits multimodal characteristics.

Cloud resource scheduling is one of the most significant tasks in the field of big data, which is a combinatorial optimization problem in essence. Scheduling strategies based on meta-heuristic algorithms (MAs) are often chosen to deal with this topic. However, MAs are prone to falling into local optima leading to decreasing quality of the allocation scheme.

Recent advancements in radiative cooling technologies have highlighted their potential as sustainable and environmentally friendly cooling solutions. However, while this method offers significant energy savings during hot seasons, it may incur energy losses (overcooling leads to a waste of cooling energy) in colder conditions. The current solution has the problems of a complex process or easy leakage of materials.

Ganoderma resinaceum is a traditional mushroom that contains natural products, including ergothioneine (EGT), which has powerful antioxidant properties in the human body. To increase EGT yield from G. resinaceum, the optimal carbon and nitrogen sources in the culture medium were determined as 20 g/L sucrose and 4 g/L NH4Cl, respectively.

Large visual language models like Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP), despite their excellent performance, are highly vulnerable to the influence of adversarial examples. This work investigates the accuracy and robustness of visual language models (VLMs) from a novel multi-modal perspective. We propose a multi-modal fine-tuning method called Multi-modal Depth Adversarial Prompt Tuning (MDAPT), which guides the generation of visual prompts through text prompts to improve the accuracy and performance of visual language models.

Gut bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) could be released into the circulatory system via the gut-liver axis and cause inflammatory immune response, while Cordyceps militaris polysaccharide (CMP40) has been reported to be effective in alleviating this inflammatory response. In this study, the effects of CMP40 gut fermentation on internal LPS structure formation and the subsequent immune response were explored. Results showed that CMP40 could change antigenicity of LPS of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Salmonella enterica, and enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, indicated by a reduced level of NO, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α.

Feature selection (FS) is a significant dimensionality reduction technique, which can effectively remove redundant features. Metaheuristic algorithms have been widely employed in FS, and have obtained satisfactory performance, among them, grey wolf optimizer (GWO) has received widespread attention. However, the GWO and its variants suffer from limited adaptability, poor diversity, and low accuracy when faced with high-dimensional data.

The quality of underwater images is often affected by light scattering and attenuation, resulting in a loss of contrast and brightness. To address this issue, this paper proposes an underwater image enhancement method: improved Fick's law algorithm-based optimally weighted histogram framework (IFLAHF). The method incorporates the bi-histogram equalization-based three plateau limits (BHE3PL) technique to enhance image contrast and details while maintaining brightness.

Background: Regorafenib is the recommended second-line therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). Our study aimed to assess the effect of transition timing to second-line therapy with regorafenib on treatment outcomes in uHCC patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study, patients were categorized into prompt transition group (PT group) or delayed transition group (DT group) based on the transition timing to second-line therapy with regorafenib following the first or subsequent occurrence of progressive disease during first-line treatment.

Orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing technology has great potential in high capacity optical communication. OAM superimposed mode can extend communication channels and thus enhance the capacity, and accurate recognition of multi-OAM superimposed mode at the receiver is very crucial. However, traditional methods are inefficient and complex for the recognition task.

Swarm Intelligence-based metaheuristic algorithms are widely applied to global optimization and engineering design problems. However, these algorithms often suffer from two main drawbacks: susceptibility to the local optima in large search space and slow convergence rate. To address these issues, this paper develops a novel cooperative metaheuristic algorithm (CMA), which is inspired by heterosis theory.

Edible mushroom proteins hold great potential for food applications, but those extracted using the alkaline extraction-acid precipitation method typically exhibit poor solubility in neutral water, with the structural changes during acid precipitation remaining unclear. In this study, Pleurotus geesteranus protein isolate (PGPI) with high water solubility was prepared with alkaline extraction, followed by dialysis and freeze-drying, and the effects of pH on the structural and functional properties of PGPI were systematically investigated. PGPI was enriched in essential and aromatic amino acids, and the molecular weight of bands in the sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis profile was mainly distributed below 45 kDa.

Dunaliella can accumulate more β-carotene (10 % or even more of the dry weight of cells) than any other species. Lycopene β-cyclase (LcyB) is the key enzyme in the catalysis of lycopene to β-carotene. In the present research, we used Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) as host to construct two different types of engineering bacteria, one expressing the D.
