Valproic acid (VPA) is a classic broad-spectrum antiepileptic drug, with significant pharmacokinetic variability. Genetic polymorphisms contribute to this variability, influencing both VPA trough serum concentration (VPA concentration) and VPA-induced liver injury. Our study aims to investigate the association between polymorphisms of uridine diphosphate glucuronyl transferase () , and VPA concentration and screen for potential genetic loci affecting VPA-induced liver injury.

Article Synopsis
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex genetic condition, and this study analyzed whole-genome sequencing data from 334 individuals, including 112 ASD patients and their non-ASD parents, to explore its genetic basis.
  • The researchers identified 146 de novo variants and 60 inherited variants, revealing 33 potential risk genes connected to neurological functions and confirming known ASD genes while also highlighting new candidates like CTNND1 and DGKZ.
  • Additionally, the study found patterns in gene expression linked to these variants and established connections between the number of de novo variants and parental age, underscoring the importance of genetic factors in ASD.

As a calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus is commonly used as a first‑line immunosuppressant in organ transplant recipients. Post‑transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is a common complication following kidney transplantation and is associated with immunosuppressant drugs, such as tacrolimus. PTDM caused by tacrolimus may be related to its influence on insulin secretion and insulin resistance.

A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, aerobic bacterial strain, designated T17 was isolated from a sample of sewage sediment from a Busan park (Republic of Korea). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain T17 had the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Dyadobacter soli KCTC 22481 (97.3 %), D.
