Ferrous oxalate (FeCO)-based composite has been recognized as an eminent catalyst for Cr(III)-ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (Cr(III)-EDTA) decomplexation. However, their practical application has been limited by low cycling capacity and an ambiguous mechanism. In this research, a composite catalyst consisting of biotite loaded with nano FeCO (CFS90) was prepared directly from iron-containing silicate tailing.

Thermal hydrolysis (TH) is effective in improving the solubilization of waste-activated sludge, but opportunities for enhancement remain, particularly in increasing organic matter conversion and reducing the generation of refractory substances. This study proposed a novel pretreatment method combining TH and potassium ferrate (PF) and evaluated its performance in improving sludge methane production. The results indicated that the combined pretreatment increased the methane yield from 118 ± 2 mL/g VS to 215 ± 7 mL/g VS, an increase of 82.

The interfacial charge transfer ability is a decisive factor influencing the photocatalytic performance of composite photocatalysts. Compared with heterojunctions that combine two or more semiconductors with different properties, homojunctions that combine two semiconductors with similar properties can accelerate the interfacial charge shift and achieve higher photocatalyticability. In this study, a ZnInS/ZnInS homojunction photocatalyst (ZIS-5) with a ZnInS to ZnInS molar ratio of 5:1 was synthesized by selecting ZnInS nano-microspheres as the substrate material and growing ZnInS flocs on the nano-microspheres.

Total solids (TS) content may provide a regulatory strategy for optimizing anaerobic digestion enhanced by high-temperature thermal hydrolysis, but the role of TS content is not yet clear. In this study, the effect of TS content on the high-temperature thermal hydrolysis and anaerobic digestion of sludge and its mechanism were investigated. The results showed that increasing the TS content from 2% to 8% increased the sludge solubility and methane production potential, reaching peak values of 26.

Thermodynamic modeling of the Si-P and Si-Fe-P systems was performed using the CALculation of PHAse Diagram (CALPHAD) method based on critical evaluation of available experimental data in the literature. The liquid and solid solutions were described using the Modified Quasichemical Model accounting for the short-range ordering and Compound Energy Formalism considering the crystallographic structure, respectively. In the present study, the phase boundaries for the liquidus and solid Si phases of the Si-P system were reoptimized.

Generally, photon of Microwave (MW) electromagnetic waves have long been thought to be lower energy, which could not excite metals or semiconductor materials to generate electric current and electron-holes pairs (e + h). In this paper, we report an unexpected, Microwave "photoelectric effect", when MW irradiates on the semiconductor materials, leading to generate electric current and electron-holes pairs (e + h), on the semiconductor materials and on the MW catalyst. Further, we show that the action mechanism of Microwave "photoelectric effect" made water adsorbing on the surface of Microwave catalyst transform into hydroxyl radical (∙OH).

The use of microwave (MW) irradiation to increase the rate of chemical reactions has attracted much attention recently in nearly all fields of chemistry due to substantial enhancements in reaction rates. However, the intrinsic nature of the effects of MW irradiation on chemical reactions remains unclear. Herein, the highly effective conversion of NO and decomposition of H2S via MW catalysis were investigated.

Objective: To study the difference of femoral condylar twist angle (CTA) measurement in three dimensional (3-D) reconstruction digital models of human knee joint based on the two dimensional (2-D) images of MRI and CT so as to provide a reference for selecting the best method of CTA measurement in preoperative design for the femoral prosthesis rotational position.

Methods: The CTA of 10 human cadaveric knee joint was measured in 3-D digital models based on MRI (group A), in 3-D digital models based on CT (group B), in the cadaveric knee joint with cartilage (group C), and in the cadaveric knee joint without cartilage (group D), respectively. The statistical analysis of the differences was made among the measurements of the CTA.

A significant microwave selective effect on oxygen inhibition removal was found for NO decomposition through microwave catalysis over BaMn(x)Mg(1-x)O3 catalysts. Especially, the NO conversion and N2 selectivity were up to 99.8% and 99.

In this work, molecular dynamics simulation was applied to investigate the adsorption of Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin (TCDD) on tetramethylammonium (TMA) and tetrapropylammonium (TPA) modified montmorillonite, with the aim of providing novel information for understanding the adsorptive characteristics of organo-montmorillonite toward organic contaminants. The simulation results showed that on both outer surface and interlayer space of TPA modified montmorillonite (TPA-mont), TCDD was adsorbed between the TPA cations with the molecular edge facing siloxane surface. Similar result was observed for the adsorption on the outer surface of TMA modified montmorillonite (TMA-mont).

Clays intercalated with both organic cations and hydroxy-metal cations, also known as inorganic-organic clays (IOCs), have drawn great interests in the recent years because they possess the properties of both organoclays and pillared layered clays (PILCs). In this work, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTMAB) and hydroxy-aluminum ([Al13O4(OH)24(H2O)12]7+ or Al13) were selected as the representatives of organic cations and hydroxy-metal cations, and three different methods were employed for the intercalation of montmorillonite at various CTMAB/Al13 ratios. This work aims to provide some novel information for clarifying the structural characteristics of IOCs.
