Article Synopsis
  • * A study sequenced 66 strains of SFTSV from Hangzhou, China, revealing five genotype groups, with genotype A being the most prevalent and genotype E linked to higher fatality rates.
  • * The research identified several novel genetic reassortants and significant genetic diversity, highlighting the need for enhanced surveillance in Hangzhou to monitor SFTSV evolution.

is an emerging foodborne enteropathogen associated with infectious diarrhoea in humans. In February 2023, an outbreak of acute gastroenteric cases was reported in a junior high school located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China. Twenty-two investigated patients presented diarrhoea (22/22, 100%), abdominal pain (21/22, 95.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging tick-borne infectious disease with sporadic occurrence and high mortality. Herein, we report an example of the in-hospital transmission of SFTS virus (SFTSV) infections with familial and nosocomial clustering in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, from March to April 2023. The epidemiological investigation and genomic analysis revealed that at least eight suspected cases of SFTS occurred in this cluster, including one death and one asymptomatic case.

Article Synopsis
  • - Exposure to live poultry markets has traditionally been linked to human infections of avian influenza, but recent changes in consumer habits, particularly the shift to purchasing freshly slaughtered poultry, have not eliminated the risk.
  • - A reported case in Hangzhou involved a person infected with the H5N6 virus after handling freshly slaughtered chicken, indicating a potential new route of infection that deviates from previous assumptions that only live poultry exposure could cause infection.
  • - Genomic analysis showed that the H5N6 variants were avian in origin and adapting to humans, highlighting the complexity of viral contamination in environments like poultry markets and emphasizing the need for improved surveillance and awareness of risks from infected poultry.

Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that the genetic factors partly influence the development of same-sex sexual behavior, but most genetic studies have focused on people of primarily European ancestry, potentially missing important biological insights. Here, we performed a two-stage genome-wide association study (GWAS) with a total sample of 1478 homosexual males and 3313 heterosexual males in Han Chinese populations and identified two genetic loci (rs17320865, Xq27.3, FMR1NB, P = 8.

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of topical negative pressure therapy/vacuum-associated closure (TPN/VAC) in the treatment of cephalic facial skin abscess with infection. Forty-seven patients with cephalic facial skin abscesses were divided into two groups. The observation group was treated with negative pressure sealing drainage technique and primary wound suture.
