Persistent STAT3 activation is a critical event in tumorigenesis and metastatic progression. Recent studies have found higher levels of STAT3 in metastatic tissues than in primary tumor tissues. We speculated that such increased STAT3 activity might be attributed to a loss of function or reduction in expression of metastasis inhibitory protein during cancer progression, and we therefore examined the role of tumor metastasis-suppressor nm23-H1 in the activation of STAT3 in the A549 lung cancer cell line.

The direct coating of Ag nanoparticles (NPs) induces remarkable enhancement of the surface exciton (SX) emissions from the ZnO NRs. Meanwhile, the charge transfer process between ZnO and Ag also leads to notable increment of blue and violet emissions from Zn interstitial defects.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which plays an important role in the process of drug resistance, may provide opportunity to solve this problem. This article reviews the characteristics of EMT, relationship between EMT and drug resistance, mechanism of EMT in tumor drug resistance in details.

However, a significant crosstalk between TGF-β and other signals occurs during the induction of EMT. nm23-H1 was the first metastasis suppressor gene to be identified on the basis of an inverse relationship between nm23-H1 expression and metastasis stage.

Previously we found that Ndi1 is a yeast homologue of the protein apoptosis-inducing factor-homologous mitochondrion-associated inducer of death and displays potent proapoptotic activity. Here we show that S.

There is an urgent need to use new molecular biology techniques to get more systematic information and have a general idea of the molecular events that take place in lung cancer metastasis. The object of this study was to construct the subtracted cDNA libraries of different metastatic potential lung cancer cell lines, NL9980 and L9981, which were established and screened from human lung large cell carcinoma cell line, WCQH-9801.

To identify a panel of tumor associated autoantibodies which can potentially be used as biomarkers for the early diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Thirty-five unique and in-frame expressed phage proteins were isolated. Based on the gene expression profiling, four proteins were selected for further study.

The purpose of this study is to establish a light-emitting cell line A549/nm23-H1-shRNA-luc which could express nm23-H1 shRNA and firefly-luciferase stably, and detect its bioluminescence in vitro and in vivo. It will provide the preparation for the next related experimental research in vivo.

Our previous study showed that the downregulation of nm23-H1 gene expression using small interfering RNA (siRNA) in NL9980 lung cancer cells greatly enhanced their invasiveness. To further explore the molecular mechanisms after nm23-H1 gene knockdown, we established transgene NL9980 and A549 lung cancer cell lines with stable nm23-H1 gene silencing through the lentivirus-mediated short hairpin RNA (shRNA) method.

Nicotine, a major component of cigarette smoke but not a carcinogen by itself, has been found to induce proliferation, invasion and metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here we reported that proinvasive effect of nicotine is analogous to that of hypoxia and involves stabilization and activation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, a key factor in determining the presence of HIF-1 and expression of its downstream metastasis-associated genes.

Previous studies have suggested that the association between the p73 G4C14-to-A4T14 polymorphism and the risk of lung cancer, but the results have not been entirely consistent. We examined whether the p73 G4C14-to-A4T14 polymorphism was related to the risk of developing lung cancer in a Chinese population.

This study was performed to investigate the anti-metastatic effect of thymoquinone on the pancreatic cancer in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that thymoquinone suppressed the migration and invasion of Panc-1 cells in a does-dependent manner.

Metastasis is the transfer of malignant tumors from one organ to a distant organ. It is the most common cause of death in cancer patients. Different molecular mechanisms enable tumor cells to infiltrate the surrounding tissue, invade blood vessels and leave the blood stream at a different site.

We have been exploring the potential of overexpressing components of the endogenous antioxidant defense system to preserve cone cell function in rd10(+/+) mice, a model of RP. rd10(+/+) mice deficient in superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) showed increased levels of superoxide radicals and carbonyl adducts (a marker of oxidative damage) in the retina and more rapid loss of cone function than rd10(+/+) mice with normal levels of SOD1.

Reduced glutathione (GSH) is critical to MSA metabolism, in addition to being a protective antioxidant which scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintains the stability of intracellular redox status. In this study, we demonstrated that MSA has an anticancer effect in the human lung cancer cell lines L9981 and 95D using growth inhibition detection, cell-cycle analysis, and apoptosis detection.

Introduction: An increasing number of studies have proven that the kinase suppressor of Ras (KSR1) functions as a scaffolding protein that coordinates the assembly of a multiprotein complex containing mitogen-activated protein kinase and its upstream regulators. However, a few studies have reported that KSR1 can activate c-Raf-1. Therefore, whether KSR1 possesses a kinase activity has been an unresolved issue until now.
