Article Synopsis
  • Optoelectrowetting technology allows for the manipulation of droplets by creating virtual electrodes, avoiding complicated physical circuitry in droplet control systems.
  • Current limitations include the need for manual droplet positioning and lack of real-time feedback, which can lead to mismanagement and contamination of droplets.
  • The paper introduces an intelligent control system that integrates optoelectrowetting with deep learning for real-time detection and automatic movement control of droplets, improving flexibility and accuracy in experiments, especially in biomedicine.

Polyethylene oxide (PEO) based electrolytes critically govern the security and energy density of solid-state batteries, but typically suffer from poor oxidation resistance at high voltages, which limits the energy density of batteries. Here, we report a Lewis-acid coordinated strategy to significantly improve the cyclic stability of 4.8 V-class PEO-based battery.

Microelectrodes have transformed our understanding of spatiotemporal responses to electrical stimulation. However, biological signals are often molecular, complicating the capture of intricate chemical signals. The microfluidic chip developed in this paper accurately measures droplet volume by using impedance analysis.

Pathological conditions linked to shear stress have been identified in hematological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. These conditions often exhibit significantly elevated shear stress levels, surpassing 1000 dyn/cm in severely stenotic arteries. Heightened shear stress can induce mechanical harm to endothelial cells, potentially leading to bleeding and fatal consequences.

This paper reports a spin-disc paper-based device with 10 individual detection units containing electromagnetic modules controlling the sample incubation time before chemiluminescence (CL) signal detection. After the sample was added to the top paper chip and incubated with the enzyme, the electromagnet was turned off to allow contact between the top and bottom paper. The HO generated by the sample flowed vertically to the bottom paper and initiated the oxidase of the luminol to generate the CL signal.

Single-cell analysis has important implications for understanding the specificity of cells. To analyze the specificity of rare cells in complex blood and biopsy samples, selective lysis of target single cells is pivotal but difficult. Microfluidics, particularly droplet microfluidics, has emerged as a promising tool for single-cell analysis.

Inoculation of single cells into separate culture chambers is one of the key requirements in single-cell analysis. This paper reports an innovative microfluidic chip integrating two pneumatic microvalves to screen and print single cells onto a well plate. The upper and lower size limits of cells can be dynamically controlled by regulating the deformation of two adjacent microvalves.
