Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe condition with an extremely high disability rate. It is mainly manifested as the loss of motor, sensory and autonomic nerve functions below the injury site. High-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation, a recently developed neuromodulation method, can increase motor function in mice with spinal cord injury.

Our study discovered that ES-PMMA bone cement can induce M2 polarization of macrophages, which has an anti-inflammatory immunomodulatory effect. We also delved into the molecular mechanisms that underlie this process.

Methods: Twenty-seven New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into ES/AN, ES-PMMA and PMMA groups, with a total of 27 New Zealand rabbits. The drugs loaded in 40 g bone cement powder were as follows: ES/AN group 8000 AxaIU enoxaparin (ES) and 200 mg alendronate (AN), ES-PMMA group 8000 AxaIU enoxaparin (ES), PMMA group without drugs.
