Prediabetes is a serious metabolic disorder that is often overlooked and 70% of individuals with prediabetes would eventually develop type 2 diabetes. The diabetogenic effects of pesticides have been reported in toxicological studies but their association with prediabetes is rarely investigated. We aimed to evaluate the association between pesticide exposure and impaired glucose regulation (IGR), including prediabetes (defined as impaired fasting glucose [IFG] and/or impaired glucose tolerance [IGT]) and insulin resistance, in a general U.

The periodic poling of TFLN, while capable of generating high-efficiency SPDC, demands intricate fabrication processes that can be onerous in terms of scalability and manufacturability. In this work, we introduce a novel approach to the generation of entangled photon pairs via SPDC within TFLN waveguides, harnessing the principles of modal phase-matching (MPM).

Herein, we theoretically introduce what we believe to be a novel approach for nano-optical manipulation, employing Au core-Si shell nanodisks interacting with tightly focused cylindrical vector beams to achieve electric and magnetic anapole states. Our investigations unveil that the interplay between individual nanodisks and radially polarized beams (RPBs) located in the center of RPBs yields a position-dependent electric anapole state.

With the introduction of higher-order-mode dispersion engineering, polarization-independent and broadband photon upconversion with a maximum bandwidth of nearly 46 nm is achieved in this device. The proposed broadband polarization-independent photon upconversion structure shows great potential applications in on-chip infrared photon detection and nonlinear photonics.

A smart window that dynamically regulates light transmittance is crucial for modern life end-users and promising for on-demand optical devices. The advent of three-dimensional (3D) photonic crystal microspheres has enriched the functions of a smart window. However, the smart window formed by polymer microspheres encounters poor mechanical strength and microstructural defects.

However, conventional computing hardware is inefficient at implementing complex tasks, in large part because the memory and processor in its computing architecture are separated, performing insufficiently in computing speed and energy consumption. In recent years, optical neural networks (ONNs) have made a range of research progress in optical computing due to advantages such as sub-nanosecond latency, low heat dissipation, and high parallelism.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwisted monolayer-bilayer graphene (TMBG) has recently emerged as an exciting platform for exploring correlated physics and topological states with rich tunability. Strong light-matter interaction was realized in twisted bilayer graphene, boosting the development of broadband graphene photodetectors from the visible to infrared spectrum with high responsivity. Extending this approach to the case of TMBG will help design advanced quantum nano-optoelectronic devices because of the reduced symmetry of the system.

Due to the large volume of exposed atoms and electrons at the surface of two-dimensional materials, interfacial charge coupling has been proven as an efficient strategy to engineer the electronic structures of two-dimensional materials assembled in van der Waals heterostructures. Recently, heterostructures formed by graphene stacked with CrOCl have demonstrated intriguing quantum states, including a distorted quantum Hall phase in the monolayer graphene and the unconventional correlated insulator in the bilayer graphene. Yet, the understanding of the interlayer charge coupling in the heterostructure remains challenging.

Traditional optical nanometrology requires precise nanostructure fabrication, multibeam interference or complex postprocessing algorithms, sometimes hampering wider adoption of this technology. Here we show a simplified, yet robust, approach to achieve nanometric metrology down to 2 nm resolution that eliminates the need for any reference signal for interferometric measurements.

Nevertheless, the insufficient osseous support and integration of the cartilage layer and the subchondral bone frequently lead to the failure of osteochondral repair. Drawing from this, it was proposed that incorporating glycine-modified attapulgite (GATP) into poly(1,8-octanediol--citrate) (POC) scaffolds via the one-step chemical cross-linking is proposed to enhance cartilage and subchondral bone defect repair simultaneously.

Background: Anthraquinone drugs are widely used in the treatment of tumors. However, multidrug resistance and severe cardiac toxicity limit its use, which have led to the discovery of new analogues. In this paper, 4-Deoxy--pyrromycinone (4-Deo), belonging to anthraquinone compounds, was first been studied with the anti-tumor effects and the safety in vitro and in vivo as a new anti-tumor drug or lead compound.
