The mechanisms and extent to which inhalation of oxidant gases damage the mitochondrial genome contributing to the development of acute and chronic lung injury have not been investigated. C57BL/6 mice exposed to chlorine (Cl ) gas and returned to room air, developed progressive loss of lung DNA glycosylase OGG1, significant oxidative injury to mtDNA, decreased intact lung mitochondrial (mt) DNA, generation of inflammatory pathway by DAMPs causing airway and alveolar injury with significant mortality. Global proteomics identified over 1400 lung proteins with alteration of key mitochondrial proteins at 24 h post Cl exposure.

Discrete oligomers can be used to precisely evaluate the structure-property relationship and enable unique chiroptical activities, however, the role of stereochemical sequences on chirality transfer is still unclear. Herein, we report the successful synthesis of a series of sequence-defined chiral azobenzene (Azo) oligomers via iterative stepwise chain growth strategy. Sequence-defined stereoisomers with one single chiral (L or D) stereocenter at the α-position, ω-position and middle- (m-) position have completely different self-assembly dynamics.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries display promise as redox-based batteries, where separators are an essential part of preventing short-circuiting of the positive and negative electrodes, while the shuttle effect is a critical issue of separators. Currently, commercial PP separators are weak in inhibiting the polysulfides shuttling, so modified separators are needed to inhibit it to improve the battery performance. Regarding the issue of low granulation qualification rates during the granulation coating of red clover seeds, this study theoretically analyzed the force conditions of seeds and powder particles under the action of liquid to obtain the main factors affecting seed coating quality. During the seed granulation coating process, an intermittent powder supply method combined with continuous liquid supply was utilized to control the ratio of powder to liquid. Using the granulation qualification rate as the evaluation index, single-factor experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of coating pan fill ratio, single powder supply amount, powder supply interval, and liquid supply amount on the quality of red clover seed granulation coating.

Large amount of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics waster and emerging contaminants in water, including fluoroquinolone antibiotics, pose challenges to human survival. In this work, a green synthesis scheme is proposed in which the defective UiO-66 (d-UiO-66) is fabricated via a solvent-free routine by using PET plastics waster as raw materials for lomefloxacin (LOM) removal. In comparison with defect-free UiO-66, the created defect imparts d-UiO-66 with higher porosity and abundant defective Zr sites, which are beneficial to boost LOM adsorption.

We assessed the mechanisms by which nonencapsulated heme, released in the plasma of mice after exposure to chlorine (Cl) gas, resulted in the initiation and propagation of acute lung injury. We exposed adult male and female C57BL/6 mice to Cl (500 ppm for 30 min), returned them to room air, and injected them intramuscularly with either human hemopexin (hHPX; 5 µg/g BW in 50-µL saline) or vehicle at 1 h post-exposure. Upon return to room air, Cl-exposed mice, injected with vehicle, developed respiratory acidosis, increased concentrations of plasma proteins in the alveolar space, lung mitochondrial DNA injury, increased levels of free plasma heme, and major alterations of their lung proteome.

Unraveling the chirality transfer mechanism of polymer assemblies and controlling their handedness is beneficial for exploring the origin of hierarchical chirality and developing smart materials with desired chiroptical activities. However, polydisperse polymers often lead to an ambiguous or statistical evaluation of the structure-property relationship, and it remains unclear how the iterative number of repeating units function in the helicity inversion of polymer assemblies. Herein, we report the macroscopic helicity and dynamic manipulation of the chiroptical activity of supramolecular assemblies from discrete azobenzene-containing oligomers (azooligomers), together with the helicity inversion and morphological transition achieved solely by changing the iterative chain lengths.
