Benzene ring contractions are useful yet rare reactions that offer a convenient synthetic route to various valuable chemicals. However, the traditional methods of benzene contraction rely on noble-metal catalysts under extreme conditions with poor efficiency and uncontrollable selectivity. Mild-condition contractions of the benzene ring are rarely reported.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vascular disease complicated by coronary artery injury. Although polymorphisms in prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 1 () are being increasingly explored in cardiovascular diseases, little is known regarding the connection between polymorphisms and KD risk. We evaluated 834 KD patients and 1474 healthy controls to explore the relationship between polymorphisms (rs1330344 and rs5788) and KD risk.

Background: There is an increased need for accurate staging for gastric cancer treatment. Consequently, it is necessary to carefully examine all dissected lymph nodes for precise staging. Recently, the fat-dissociation method has been developed as a quick and accurate method for harvesting dissected lymph nodes of colorectal cancer cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of multi-detector spiral computed tomography (MDCT) in diagnosing lymph node metastasis in patients with advanced gastric cancer by analyzing the relationship between CT findings and actual pathological results.
  • A total of 108 patients were examined, leading to the identification of a critical value (CV) of 7.6 mm for determining metastasis based on lymph node size, with a reported sensitivity of 91.4% but lower specificity at 47.3%.
  • The research concludes that while MDCT can be a valuable tool for nodal diagnosis, particularly for large nodular and diffuse metastases, it still presents challenges in accurately identifying all metastatic cases.

Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (SS2) is a major porcine and human pathogen which causes arthritis, meningitis, and septicemia. Streptococcus suis nuclease A (SsnA) is a recently discovered deoxyribonuclease (DNase), which has been demonstrated to contribute to escape killing in neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). To further determine the effects of ssnA on virulence, the ssnA deletion mutant (ΔssnA) and its complemented strain (C-ΔssnA) were constructed.
