Keratinases are valuable enzymes for converting feather keratin waste into bioactive products but often suffer from poor substrate specificity and low catalytic efficiency. This study reported the creating of a novel keratinase with targeted adherence and specific degradation on feather keratins by fusing prepeptidase C-Terminal (PPC) domain. A PPC domain of metalloprotease E423 specifically adsorbed feather keratins by hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic interactions in a time- and temperature-dependent manner.

To study the recharge source, hydrochemical characteristics, and evolution process of karst underground water and surface water in the Xianghualing Mining area, we collected 32 groups of samples from karst underground water and surface water sources in and around the mining area. Based on multivariate statistical analysis, the Piper three-line diagram, Gibbs diagram, and ion ratio coefficient, this study analyzed the hydrogeochemical characteristics of karst underground water and surface water in the Xianghualing Mining area. The study systematically revealed the recharge source, recharge age, and hydrochemical evolution law of both water sources.

Ketamine can produce rapid-acting antidepressant effects in treatment-resistant patients with depression. Developing simple and sensitive non-aggregation strategy for detecting Cd is necessary for improving the selectivity and sensitivity of probe. Here, we establish a simple, rapid and ratiometric strategy for the recognition of Cd based on the formation of core-shell ZnSe/CdS structure using ZnSe quantum dots (QDs). The transformation from binary ZnSe QDs to core-shell ZnSe/CdS QDs both change the elemental composition and structure of ZnSe QDs, leading to the changes in band gap of ZnSe QDs, which could be observed in the UV-vis spectra.
