Article Synopsis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune condition that involves thickening of the synovial membrane and damage to cartilage, prompting researchers to explore quercetin, a flavonoid, as a potential treatment.
  • The study utilized a collagen-induced arthritis model in rats, administering quercetin for four weeks to assess its impact on arthritis symptoms, inflammation, and underlying metabolic processes within synovial cells.
  • Results showed that quercetin significantly improved arthritis symptoms and reduced inflammation markers in rats, suggesting it may help protect against joint damage by affecting specific signaling pathways.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Jiedu-Quyu-Ziyin Fang (JQZF) is a new herbal formula improved based on "Sheng Ma Bie Jia Tang" in the Golden Chamber, has been proved to be effective in the treatment of SLE. The ability of JQZF to prevent lymphocyte growth and survival has been demonstrated in earlier investigations. However, the specific mechanism of JQZF on SLE has not been fully investigated.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of tofacitinib in combination with methotrexate (MTX) versus MTX monotherapy in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: Trials were identified from four electronic databases: PubMed, Web of science, Cochrane Library and EMBASE from inception to April 2022. Two independent reviewers evaluated each database to scan the title, abstract and keywords of each record retrieved.

To clarify the mechanism of triptolide (TP) in alleviating the conditions underlying SLE. Eight-week-old MRL/lpr mice were randomly divided into a model group ( = 5), low-dose TP (TP-L) group ( = 5), and high-dose TP (TP-H) group ( = 5). Mice in these groups were gavaged with normal saline, low-dose TP solution, and high-dose TP solution for 8 weeks, respectively.

Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is characterized by numerous complications, complex disease, and high mortality, making its treatment a top priority in the treatment of COVID-19. Integrated traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine played an important role in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of COVID-19 during the epidemic. However, currently there are no evidence-based guidelines for the integrated treatment of severe COVID-19 with TCM and western medicine.

Objective: To explore the expression of CD40/CD40L in multiple myeloma(MM) patients and its influence on prognosis.

Methods: Thirty patients with MM treated in Cangzhou People's Hospital from May 2016 to June 2017 were selected and divided into MM group, then 30 healthy people with a physical examination in our hospital at the same time were selected as the normal group. The serum CD40/CD40L levels of the patients in the two groups was detected by flow cytometry, and its correlation with the lymphocyte population, pathological grade and prognostic significance of MM patients was anaysis.

Background: We evaluated the clinical applications of the reconstruction of postoperative defects of the oral cavity using contralateral submental artery flaps.

Methods: A retrospective study of 18 patients with postoperative intraoral cancer defects reconstructed with contralateral submental artery perforator flaps between October 2018 and October 2019 in our department was conducted. The defect area, flap size, and complications were evaluated.

Objective: To investigate the effect of Lang-chuang-ding Decoction (, LCD) on the expression of DNA methylation of CD70 gene promoter in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of females with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: PBMCs isolated from female patients with SLE or healthy donors were cultured and treated with LCD medicated serum or normal serum for 24 or 48 h. The mRNA expressions of CD70 gene in PBMCs were detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR); the DNA methylation of the CD70 gene promoter region was detected by methylation-specific PCR.

Objective: To determine the effective dosage and formulation of agkistrodon in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rats.

Methods: CIA was induced by injection of collagen in complete/incomplete Freund's adjuvant. Agkistrodon decoction, agkistrodon powder, and agkistrodon wine were administered daily starting from the onset of arthritis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the Jiedu Quyu Zishen Recipe (JQZR) impacts the glucocorticoid receptor alpha (GRalpha) signaling in the kidneys of MRL/lpr mice, which are used as a model for renal injury.
  • Thirty MRL/lpr mice were divided into three groups for treatment comparisons and a normal control group was included, with methods like HE staining and PCR used to analyze renal tissue changes and GRalpha expression.
  • Results show that JQZR improved kidney injury by increasing GRalpha expression and its binding strength to cyclophilin A, indicating a potential therapeutic effect of the recipe in renal damage.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of three Chinese herbal antidotes on the expression of RANTES, a gene associated with immune response, in MRL/lpr mice.
  • Fifty-four mice were divided into nine groups and treated with various combinations of the herbs or prednisone over 12 weeks, measuring RANTES levels through ELISA and RT-PCR at the end.
  • Findings show that while prednisone significantly reduced RANTES levels, the combination of all three herbal antidotes had the greatest inhibitory effect compared to individual treatments.
