Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of using computed tomography (CT) iterative reconstruction techniques combined with target scanning for diagnosing solid pseudopapillary tumors of the pancreas (SPTP).
  • Analyzing data from 27 patients, the research found that SPTP is more prevalent in young to middle-aged females, usually presenting as cystic-solid tumors with specific CT imaging features.
  • Results indicate that this imaging approach enhances tumor visibility and helps in accurately diagnosing SPTP, as it clarifies tumor structure and growth patterns without significant differences between genders.

Rationale: Isolated dissection of the celiac artery (IDCA) is one of isolated visceral artery dissection, which can occur alone, and can also be complicated with superior mesenteric artery dissection and splenic artery pseudoaneurysm. This disease is very rare in clinic. The exact pathogenesis of IDCA remains unknown.

Betalains replace anthocyanins as color pigments in most families of Caryophyllales. Unlike anthocyanins, betalains are derived from tyrosine via three enzymatic steps: hydroxylation of L-tyrosine to L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA; step 1), and conversion of L-DOPA to betalamic acid (step 2), and to -DOPA (cDOPA; step 3). The principal enzymes responsible for these reactions have been elucidated at the molecular level, but their subcellular localizations have not been explored; hence, the intracellular compartments wherein betalains are biosynthesized remain unknown.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated the role of microRNA-143 (miRNA-143) in predicting in-stent restenosis (ISR) for patients with lower extremity arterial occlusive disease (LEAOD) undergoing treatment.
  • - The research involved 165 patients, analyzing various health factors and measuring miRNA-143 levels, finding that lower levels were associated with restenosis and correlated with factors like smoking and diabetes.
  • - Results suggest that miRNA-143 could serve as an effective predictor for ISR, with a strong diagnostic capability indicated by an AUC of 0.866 in the ROC curve analysis.

Objective: To study the diagnostic value of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

Methods: Twenty healthy volunteers and fifty patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy underwent DTI in the Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Ningbo University from January 2014 to April 2015. Healthy volunteers served as controls.

A 1670 bp 5'-flanking region of the polyphenol oxidase (PPO) gene was isolated from red Swiss chard, a betalain-producing plant. This region, named promoter BvcPPOP, and its 5'-truncated versions were fused with the GUS gene and introduced into Arabidopsis, an anthocyanins-producing plant. GUS histochemical staining and quantitative analysis of transgenic plants at the vegetative and reproductive stages showed that BvcPPOP could direct GUS gene expression in vegetative organs with root- and petiole-preference, but not in reproductive organs including inflorescences shoot, inflorescences leaf, flower, pod and seed.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores how effective 3DX CT is for diagnosing and treating unerupted and impacted teeth.
  • - A total of 84 impacted teeth from 66 patients were analyzed using cone beam CT to create 3D images for clearer examination.
  • - The findings showed that 3DX CT provides a detailed view of tooth locations and their relationships with surrounding structures, making it useful before surgical and orthodontic procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify risk factors associated with Acinetobacter baumannii infections in patients in intensive care units (ICU).
  • A total of 140 patients were examined, and the study found significant risk factors such as the severity of illness, use of immunosuppressants, mechanical ventilation, and antibiotic treatment.
  • The research also revealed that the strains of Acinetobacter baumannii from ICU patients were multidrug-resistant and shared identical characteristics based on PCR analysis.
