Article Synopsis
  • - A study compared surgical outcomes of robot-assisted surgery and laparoscopy in 39 pediatric patients with benign ovarian tumors, against 55 treated with laparoscopy by the same surgeons.
  • - Results showed no major differences in age, weight, or tumor size, but the robotic surgery had a longer operative time (102.7 min vs. 89.3 min) and fewer patients could go home the same day (15.4% for robotic vs. 54.5% for laparoscopy).
  • - Overall, both methods yielded similar effectiveness, but robotic surgery took longer to perform while being equally safe without complications or need for open surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated long-term outcomes of ovarian preserving surgery for neonatal ovarian cysts over several years at a hospital.
  • A total of 22 patients were analyzed, revealing that simple cysts had a higher ovarian preservation rate (90%) compared to complex cysts (12.5%).
  • The results indicate that while simple cysts have good prognoses and preservation rates, complex cysts show lower chances of ovarian preservation after surgical treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19 generally causes mild symptoms in children, but some cases can be severe or critical, leading to serious health issues or even death, highlighting the need for more research and attention from healthcare professionals.
  • A review of existing literature identified that children with multiple health conditions or who are unvaccinated are at a greater risk of severe COVID-19, with common severe complications including acute respiratory distress, pneumonia, and various cardiovascular and neurological issues.
  • There are significant differences in immune responses between children and adults during COVID-19, yet clinical trials and treatment guidelines for children are limited, indicating a need for tailored research and management strategies specific to the pediatric population.

Increasing evidence has confirmed that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in regulating the development and progression of various tumors. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of circFBXW7 on the progression of glioma and to determine its underlying mechanism. qRT-PCR was performed to measure the expression of circFBXW7, miR-23a-3p, and PTEN in tissues and cell lines of glioma.

The pertussis surveillance system has been established since 2009 in Tianjin, and continuously improved over the past 10 years. This system determines the definition and classification of pertussis, establishes simple and feasible sampling methods and laboratory detection methods in clinical practice, standardizes the report management of pertussis cases and the treatment of epidemic situations. After the implementation of the surveillance system, the number of reported pertussis cases increased from 26 in 2009 to 802 in 2017, the number of diagnosed cases increased from 19 in 2009 to 662 in 2017, the reported incidence rate of pertussis increased from 0.
