Counterintuitive temperature dependence of isospin flavor polarization has recently been found in twisted bilayer graphene, where unpolarized electrons in a Fermi liquid become a spin-valley polarized insulator upon heating. So far, the effect has been limited to v = +/-1 (one electron/hole per superlattice cell), leaving open questions such as whether it is a general property of symmetry-breaking electronic phases. Here, by studying a rhombohedral trilayer graphene/boron nitride moiré superlattice, we report that at v = -3 a resistive peak emerges at elevated temperatures or in parallel magnetic fields.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined risk factors for recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury after microwave ablation (MWA) of thyroid nodules and recovery time for hoarseness post-procedure.
  • The analysis included 1,216 patients from five hospitals, focusing on nodule characteristics and their impact on hoarseness, particularly the distance from nodules to the tracheoesophageal groove (TEG-D) and posterior capsule distance (PCD).
  • Findings showed that closer nodules (TEG-D ≤ 2 mm) correlated with longer recovery times from hoarseness, highlighting TEG-D as a crucial risk factor for both injury and recovery in MWA procedures.

The magnetic correlations at the superconductor/ferromagnet (S/F) interfaces play a crucial role in realizing dissipation-less spin-based logic and memory technologies, such as triplet-supercurrent spin-valves and 'π' Josephson junctions. Here we report the observation of an induced large magnetic moment at high-quality nitride S/F interfaces. Using polarized neutron reflectometry and DC SQUID measurements, we quantitatively determined the magnetization profile of the S/F bilayer and confirmed that the induced magnetic moment in the adjacent superconductor only exists below .

Article Synopsis
  • Microwave ablation (MWA) shows comparable effectiveness and safety to surgery for treating T1bN0M0 papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), offering a minimally invasive option.
  • In a study involving 123 patients, those undergoing MWA had similar outcomes to those who chose surgery, with little difference in local tumor progression and complications.
  • MWA resulted in better cosmetic results, suggesting it could be a viable alternative for low-risk PTC, though more research is needed regarding lymph node metastasis concerns.

Correlating atomic configurations-specifically, degree of disorder (DOD)-of an amorphous solid with properties is a long-standing riddle in materials science and condensed matter physics, owing to difficulties in determining precise atomic positions in 3D structures. To this end, 2D systems provide insight to the puzzle by allowing straightforward imaging of all atoms. Direct imaging of amorphous monolayer carbon (AMC) grown by laser-assisted depositions has resolved atomic configurations, supporting the modern crystallite view of vitreous solids over random network theory.

Marked evolution of properties with minute changes in the doping level is a hallmark of the complex chemistry that governs copper oxide superconductivity as manifested in the celebrated superconducting domes and quantum criticality taking place at precise compositions. The strange-metal state, in which the resistivity varies linearly with temperature, has emerged as a central feature in the normal state of copper oxide superconductors. The ubiquity of this behaviour signals an intimate link between the scattering mechanism and superconductivity.
