This study investigated the anti-fibrotic effects of reversine and Chinese medicine Xiang-Sha-Liu-Jun-Zi decoction (XSLJZD) on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced hepatic injury. Sprague-Dawley rats were intraperitoneally administered with TAA, then injected with reversine intraperitoneally, and/or orally provided with XSLJZD. TAA resulted in liver injury with increases in the liver index and levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase.

Lead-zinc (Pb-Zn) mine tailings pose a great risk to the natural environment and human health because of their high toxicity. In this study, the responses of photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence, and antioxidative enzyme of and in the soil contaminated by Pb-Zn mine tailings were investigated. Results showed that Pb-Zn mine tailings significantly reduced net photosynthetic rates and leaf photosynthetic pigment content of both trees, and the reduction of net photosynthetic rates was mainly caused by their biochemical limitation (BL).

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how Th17 cells in the blood relate to structural damage in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients who seem to be in remission.
  • Researchers found that active RA patients had significantly higher levels of Th17 cells and interleukin-17A (IL-17A) compared to healthy controls, and those levels were linked to RA disease activity.
  • Despite being clinically in remission, some patients exhibited structural erosion, with higher Th17 cell levels observed in those with progression of damage compared to those without.

Objective: To explore the expression and significance of Th17 and Treg cells in peripheral blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Methods: Thirty active SLE patients (including 17 SLE patients with lupus nephritis), 20 inactive SLE patients and 20 healthy controls were enrolled. The expressions of Th17 cells and CD4+CD25+Foxp3+Treg cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were evaluated by flow cytometry.
