Evidence-based insertion and maintenance bundles are effective in reducing the incidence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in intensive care unit (ICU) settings. We studied the adoption and compliance of CLABSI prevention bundle programs and CLABSI rates in ICUs in a large network of acute care hospitals across Canada.

Increased patient advocacy has resulted in a shift toward more active patient engagement in the research. A scoping review was conducted to explore the literature on healthcare research priority settings wherein children, youths, or their families were involved in the priority-setting process. Six databases including MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Embase, Web of Science, and Global Health and the James Lind Alliance website were searched up until September 2019.

Sweet potato decays easily due to its high respiration rate and reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation during postharvest storage. In this study, we explored the relationship between antioxidant capacity in leaves and storage properties in different sweet potato cultivars, the tuberous roots of 10 sweet potato cultivars were used as the experimental materials to analyze the storage property during storage at 11-15°C. According to the decay percentage after 290 days of storage, Xu 32 was defined as a storage-tolerant cultivar (rot percentage less than 25%); Xu 55-2, Z 15-1, Shangshu 19, Yushu, and Zhezi 3 as above-moderate storage-tolerant cultivars (rot percentage ranging from 25 to 50%); Sushu 16, Yanshu 5, and Hanzi as medium-storable cultivars (rot percentage 50-75%); and Yan 25 as a storage-sensitive cultivar (rot percentage greater than 75%).

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play vital roles in the development and progression of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the role of most lncRNAs in NSCLC remains unknown. This study explored the clinical significance, biological function and underlying mechanism of lnc-GAN1 in NSCLC.

Methods: With a custom lncRNA microarray we found that lnc-GAN1 is markedly downregulated in NSCLC tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers sequenced the transcriptomes of I. pes-caprae to identify genes related to salt stress, discovering 2,478 and 3,334 differentially expressed genes in roots and leaves, respectively.
  • * Key pathways involved in salt signal transduction, including MAPK signaling and abscisic acid (ABA) signaling, were analyzed, revealing that specific genes play crucial roles in the plant's response to salt stress.

Objective: To study the efficacy and safety of the combined treatment with compound Reinhartdt and Sea Cumber Capsule (RSC, a Chinese medicinal preparation consisted mainly of Reinhartdt and Sea Cumber) and Donepezil for vascular dementia (VD), and its effect on thyroid function axis.

Methods: Sixty-three patients with VD were treated respectively with RSC, Donepezil and the combined treatment. MMSE, ADAS-Cog and ADL scales were used to evaluate the condition of patients before treatment as well as at 3 months and 6 months after treatment.

Objective: To study the efficacy and safety of Reinhartdt and sea cucumber capsule (RSC) combined with donepezil in treating Alzheimer's disease (AD), and its effect on thyroid function axis.

Methods: Sixty-eight patients were randomly assigned to the RSC group, the Donepezil group and the combined treatment group, who were treated for 3 and 6 months with RSC, Donepezil and RSC combined with Donepezil, respectively. The curative effect was evaluated by scoring according to Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), ADAS-Cog and ADL chart, and the level of thyroid hormones, including TSH, FT3, FT4, TT3 and TT4, were measured with radioimmunoassay before treatment, 3 and 6 months after treatment respectively.
