The development of small molecule photosensitizers based on iridium complex is limited by the mismatch between therapeutic effect and systemic toxicity, as well as the incomplete understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying cell death induction. Herein, a small molecule iridium complex IrC with high photocytotoxicity is synthesized, with half maximal inhibitory concentration as low as 91 nm, demonstrating excellent anti-tumor, relief of splenomegaly, and negligible side effects. Starting from the factors of effective photosensitizers, the in-depth theoretical analysis on photon absorption efficiency, energy transfer level matching, and properties of the triplet excited state of IrC is conducted.

Effective monitoring of acetaminophen (APAP) dosage is crucial for preventing antipyretic abuse, ensuring therapeutic efficacy, and minimizing toxic effects. However, existing self-monitoring methods are limited. In this study, we designed a plasmonic microneedle (MN) sensor for real-time nondestructive monitoring of acetaminophen levels in dermal interstitial fluid (ISF) by employing a handheld Raman spectrometer.

Background: Osteosarcoma (OS), the most prevalent primary bone malignancy, exhibits rapid growth and a high tendency for lung metastasis, posing significant treatment challenges. Ziyuglycoside II (ZGS II), a main active compound derived from Sanguisorba officinalis l., has shown potential in cancer treatment.

The light-emitting diodes (LEDs) used in indoor testing of perovskite solar cells do not expose them to the levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation that they would receive in actual outdoor use. We report degradation mechanisms of p-i-n-structured perovskite solar cells under unfiltered sunlight and with LEDs. Weak chemical bonding between perovskites and polymer hole-transporting materials (HTMs) and transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) dominate the accelerated A-site cation migration, rather than direct degradation of HTMs.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a key risk factor for the developing of metabolic liver injury and easily evolving to advanced fibrosis. Syringin (SYR), isolated from Acanthopanax senticosus, has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-apoptotic properties. However, its hepatoprotective effects and mechanisms in T2DM-induced liver fibrosis remain unclear.

Diabetes-induced male dysfunction is considered as a worldwide challenge, and testicular damage mainly caused by oxidative stress is its most common manifestation. Cordycepin, a natural antioxidant, has been used in the treatment of diabetic complications. However, the protective action and underlying mechanism of cordycepin on hyperglycaemia-induced testicular damage are unclear.
