The etiology of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is complicated and closely related to neurotransmission in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Developing new strategies for treating this disease is a major challenge for IBS-D research. Berberine hydrochloride (BBH), the derivative of berberine, is a herbal constituent used to treat IBS.

Background: The nerve plexus of the enteric nervous system (ENS) plays a crucial part in regulating gastrointestinal functions, such as muscle contractile activity and nutrient absorption. Studying the nerve plexus can provide vital information for research on ENS disorders. Whole-mount preparation is an important technique for investigating the nerve plexus.

The hepatocyte growth factor receptor c-Met, a receptor tyrosine kinase, and Integrin α5β1, one of the main ECM receptors of hepatocytes have been reported to play important roles in tumor growth by activating mitogenic signaling pathways. In human gastric cardia adenocarcinoma, however, expression of the c-Met and Integrin α5β1 have not been reported. Here we examined the mRNA levels and protein expressions of these two genes and their relationship in human normal gastric cardia mucosa and primary carcinomas.

Objective: To study the biological behavior of osteoblast and vascular endothelial cell culture.

Methods: The osteoblasts and vascular endothelial cells were obtained from calvarial bone and renal cortex of 2-week rabbits respectively. The experiment were divided into group A (osteoblasts), group B (vascular endothelial cells) and group C (co-cultured osteoblasts and vascular endothelial cells).

Objective: To study the allograft antigenicity of human ear cartilage and the effect of the cell extraction on antigenicity.

Methods: The human ear cartilage was acellular by cell extraction with Triton X-100. Then the cartilage and the acellular cartilage were analyzed by anti-MHC-I immunohistochemical staining, the reaction of the peripheral blood mononuclear(PBM) cells to the cartilage and the acellular cartilage and the migration of the PBM cells toward the cartilage and the acellular cartilage.
