Article Synopsis
  • The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors are essential for plant development, secondary metabolism, and responses to environmental stress, with this study focusing on the SfbHLH gene family.* -
  • Researchers identified 167 SfbHLH genes, classifying them into 23 subfamilies, and discovered that gene duplications were key to the family’s expansion, with SfbHLH042 being central in protein interactions.* -
  • Transcriptome analysis across various plant tissues showed specific gene expression patterns, suggesting the SfbHLH genes, especially one promising candidate gene, play a significant role in flavonoid biosynthesis during pod development.*

  • The excessive use of chemical fertilizers in growing Astragalus mongholicus harms its quality and soil sustainability, prompting research into using nitrogen-fixing bacteria as a more eco-friendly alternative for plant growth.
  • A field experiment with a mix of five beneficial bacterial strains led to the discovery of 26 increased metabolites, including flavonoids and saponins, along with elevated levels of plant hormones that are crucial for growth.
  • Results also indicated significant changes in bacterial communities in the soil and plant tissues, highlighting the potential of these bacteria in enhancing plant growth and metabolic processes, which could pave the way for natural fertilizer development.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, a Chinese herbal medicine, for aflatoxin contamination and identified fungi responsible for it by analyzing 32 samples from different processing stages using specialized methods.
  • - Aflatoxins were found in 28 samples, with the highest contamination from washing, exceeding safety limits set by the Chinese Pharmacopoeia; specifically, aflatoxin B1 was present in three samples.
  • - Fungal contamination increased through processing, particularly due to composting and washing, with Aspergillus flavus identified as the main source of aflatoxins, emphasizing the need for monitoring during production.

Commercially available japonica rice and indica rice with different trade names were collected, and then based on the method of rice stir-frying,their many indexes were evaluated, for example the physical and chemical properties such as appearance color, grain type, broken kernel ratio,length-width ratio,1 000-grain weight, specific heat capacity, moisture content, amylose content, and protein content. The discriminant function analysis was used to determine the effective factors affecting the quality of rice as excipients. The results showed that two types of rice could be distinguished by rice color parameter a*,grain parameter circularity,1 000-grain weight and amylose content.

To minimize the predatory harvest of Heterosmilax yunnanensis and maintain the sustainable utilization of its resources, a study on the tending technology of wild H. yunnanensis was carried out. The results showed that the tuber tending model had a higher seed emergence rate, shorter growth period and easier control of male and female ratios than other tending models; by removing shrubs, topping, bending pruning, controlling insects and pests and other effective technical measures, the growth period of H.

Farfarae Flos (FF) is widely used for the treatment of cough, bronchitis, and asthmatic disorders in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). According to the experience of TCM, only the flower bud can be used as herbal drug, and its medicinal quality becomes lower after blooming. However, the underlying scientific basis for this phenomenon is not fully understood.
