Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how liquid nitrogen freeze-thaw cycles affect coal seams, using complex resistivity methods to analyze changes in electrical properties and permeability.
  • Results show that complex resistivity parameters correlate positively with cycle times, while differences in electrical properties between bedding directions decrease with more cycles.
  • The research suggests that freeze-thaw processes weaken anisotropic characteristics in coal, create fracture networks, and offers a new evaluation model based on resistivity for assessing permeability enhancement.

The structure of coal seam fractures is the main physical property of coalbed methane reservoir evaluation, and the complex resistivity method is a potential geophysical evaluation method for coal seam fractures. In this study, cylindrical coal samples with axial directions perpendicular to the bedding, face cleat, and butt cleat were prepared. The complex electrical parameters of the loaded specimens were tested with test frequencies ranging from 1 Hz to 10 kHz.
