Background: The aim of this study was to design an individualized biofeedback program based on the underlying dysfunctions and to assess the short-term and long-term clinical and quality-of-life outcomes for patients with imperforate anus.

Methods: Thirty-one patients were treated using an individualized biofeedback program according to their different dysfunctions after having completed the assessment of the anorectal function. Many special biofeedback training methods that consist of strengthening the perianal muscles biofeedback, sensory discrimination biofeedback, synchronizing external sphincter contraction biofeedback, and improving defecation dynamic biofeedback were selected to make up the individualized biofeedback training program.

The extent of Sertoli cell proliferation during fetal and neonatal development determines the final adult testis size and potential for sperm output. To gain further knowledge of the factors that regulate Sertoli cell proliferation, the present study used a new approach to analyse changes in morphology and proliferation in the postnatal testis by combining organ culture with morphometric analysis. Fragments of rat testes from days 0 to 10 postpartum were cultured in contact with DMEM for 6 h or 72 h and fixed.

Testosterone (T) treatment suppresses gonadotropin levels in normal men and is a promising reversible contraceptive that induces azoospermia in approximately 70% of subjects and oligospermia in the remainder; however, the basis of this variable response is unclear. This study aimed to investigate this reported variable response by examining the spermatogenic process and quantitating germ cell number in men after T-induced gonadotropin withdrawal. Ten normal fertile men (31-46 yr), already planning to undergo vasectomy, either received T enanthate (200 mg, i.

This study examined the effect of GnRH-antagonist (GnRH-A)-induced gonadotrophin withdrawal on numbers of germ cells in adult cynomolgus monkeys and aimed to identify the site of the earliest spermatogenic lesion(s) produced. Animals received either GnRH-A (Cetrorelix; 450 micrograms kg-1 day-1 s.c.

Germ cell and Sertoli cell numbers were estimated in six normal adult monkeys (Macaca fascicularis) using a contemporary unbiased and efficient stereological method--the optical disector. The data was used to assess the efficiency of spermatogenesis from type B spermatogonia to elongated spermatids. Animals underwent orchidectomy, and the right testis (volume 17.

Objective: To determine whether immature spermatids increase in semen in response to hormonal contraceptive treatments. Such a finding would support the existence of a defect in spermiogenesis, which in turn may explain the reported variability in sperm output.

Design: Semen smears were obtained from healthy men undergoing randomized control trials of T plus progestin contraceptive treatments.
