Background: Excessive oxidative stress is known to cause endothelial dysfunction and drive cardiovascular diseases (CVD). While telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) shows protective effects against oxidative stress in rodents and is associated to human flow-mediated dilation in CVD, its regulatory mechanisms in human vascular systems under pathological oxidative stress require further investigation.

Methods: Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) were used to create vascular organoids (VOs).

Mulching has been demonstrated to improve the soil environment and promote plant growth. However, the effects of mulching and mulch-derived microplastics (MPs) on nitrogen fixation by root nodules remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the effects of polyethylene (PE) and polylactic acid-polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PLA-PBAT) film mulching on nitrogen fixation by root nodules after 4 years of continuous mulching using N tracer technology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates risks of bleeding and ischemia in elderly patients (≥65 years) with acute coronary syndrome and atrial fibrillation, highlighting the lack of specific prognostic models for this demographic.
  • A cohort of 1,851 patients across multiple hospitals in China was analyzed over a year, leading to the development of two effective prognostic models for predicting bleeding and ischemic events, which showed strong performance in both internal and external validation cohorts.
  • The study provides online calculators based on these models to aid healthcare professionals in personalized risk assessment and decision-making for elderly patients facing these common cardiovascular issues.

Microplastics (MPs), widely presented in cultivated soil, have caused serious stresses on crop growth. However, the mechanism by which MPs affect legumes and rhizobia symbiosis is still unclear. Here, peanut seedlings were inoculated with Bradyrhizobium zhanjiangense CCBAU 51778 and were grown in vermiculite with 3 %/5 % (w/w) addition of PVC (polyvinyl chloride)-MPs/PBAT (polybutylene adipate)-MPs.

Rhizobia form symbiotic relationships with legumes, fixing atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-accessible form within their root nodules. Nitrogen fixation is vital for sustainable soil improvements in agriculture. Peanut () is a leguminous crop whose nodulation mechanism requires further elucidation.

In agricultural production, biodegradable plastic mulching film (Bio-PMF) has the potential to replace conventional plastic mulching film (CPMF) due to its degradability, but their impacts on soil-crop ecology are controversial. In this study, from 2019 to 2021, effects of CPMF and Bio-PMF on the soil-crop ecology and soil pollution were evaluated on a peanut farm. Compared to the Bio-PMF, an overall improvement in the soil-peanut ecology under the CPMF was observed, including an increase of 10.

Introduction: Crops influence both soil microbial communities and soil organic carbon (SOC) cycling through rhizosphere processes, yet their responses to nitrogen (N) fertilization have not been well investigated under continuous monoculture.

Methods: In this study, rhizosphere soil microbial communities from a 5-year continuous mono-cropped peanut land were examined using Illumina HighSeq sequencing, with an N fertilization gradient that included 0 (N0), 60 (N60), 120 (N120) and 180 (N180) kg hm. Soil respiration rate ( ) and its temperature sensitivity ( ) were determined, with soil carbon-acquiring enzyme activities assayed.

Many antigens from have been demonstrated as strong immunogens and proved to have application potential as vaccine candidate antigens. Cyclic di-AMP (c-di-AMP) as a bacterial second messenger regulates various bacterial processes as well as the host immune responses. Rv2837c, the c-di-AMP phosphodiesterase (CnpB), was found to be relative to virulence of and interference with host innate immune response.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a lipid-driven chronic inflammatory disease occurring at the arterial subendothelial space. Macrophages play a critical role in the initiation and development of AS. Herein, targeted codelivery of anti-miR 155 and anti-inflammatory baicalein is exploited to polarize macrophages toward M2 phenotype, inhibit inflammation and treat AS.

Herein an in situ growth of clean palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) on functional reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-coated polystyrene (PS) microspheres is achieved by a simple two-step process. On the basis of the hydrophobic interaction and π-electron interaction, the PS/RGO composite particles are first prepared by the reduction of graphene oxide in the presence of PS microspheres. Second, without using any additional reducing agent or stabilizer, the clean Pd NPs grow in situ on the surface of PS/RGO composite particles in water through a spontaneous redox reaction between Pd and RGO.

Five previously undescribed compounds including two triterpenoid aglycones, 3β,23-dihydroxy-1,12-dioxo-olean-28-oic acid and 3β,23,27-trihydroxy-1-oxo-olean-12-ene-28-oic acid, and three triterpenoid glucosides cyclocarioside L-N, along with 17 known compounds were isolated from a CHCl-soluble extract of the leaves of Cyclocarya paliurus. Two 27-nor-triterpenoid glycosides were isolated from the genus for the first time. Furthermore, the characterized compounds were tested for the inhibitory effects on apoliprotein B48 secretion in Caco-2 cells.

Context: Cyclocarya paliurus (Batal) Iljinskaja (Juglandaceae) is an edible and medicinal plant; the leaves are used in Chinese folkloric medicine to treat dyslipidaemia and diabetes.

Objective: This study evaluates the antihyperlipidaemic potential of the triterpenic acid-enriched fraction (TAE) from C. paliurus and the underlying mechanism.

Tillage intensities largely affect soil compaction dynamics in agro-ecosystems. However, the contribution of tillage intensities on compaction changes in underground peanut (Arachis hypogaea) fields has not been quantified. We thus aimed to better understand the role of soil tillage intensities in mitigation of compaction stress for peanuts.

Background: Hepatic steatosis (HS) is the early stage of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease which is caused by impaired hepatic lipid homeostasis. Cyclocarya paliurus, an herbal tea consumed in China, has been demonstrated to ameliorate abnormal lipid metabolism for the treatment of metabolic diseases.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the regulative effect of chloroform extract from Cyclocarya paliurus (ChE) on treatment of HS, as well as key factors involved in hepatic lipid metabolism.

Two new (1-2) and three known (3-5) C21 steroidal glycosides were isolated from Cynanchum stauntonii. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data as well as HRTOFMS analysis. The cytotoxicity of the compounds against A549, HepG2, and 4T1 cell lines were evaluated by MTT assay.
