Article Synopsis
  • Microvascular angina (MVA) is a leading cause of chest pain in patients without blocked arteries, and effective treatments are currently lacking.
  • The study investigates a medicine food homology formula (MFHF) to improve MVA symptoms using data mining from various sources to identify potential medicinal foods.
  • Key findings include the formula's composition and five active components that exhibit anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective effects, along with pathways they target, potentially paving the way for novel MVA treatments.

Introduction: Both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and rosacea represent common chronic systemic autoimmune conditions. Recent research indicates a heightened RA risk among individuals with rosacea. However, the molecular mechanisms linking these diseases remain largely unknown.

Objective: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor of the head and neck, but its occurrence and progression mechanisms remain unclear. In addition-there is a lack of effective targeting drugs. The second major subunit of DNA polymerase (POLE2) catalyzes the prolongation of new strand replication and modifies exonuclease domain activity.

Purpose: To construct the expression profile of circular RNA (circRNA) in human oral lichen planus (OLP), and to identify and validate the differentially expressed circRNA in oral lichen planus tissues and provide theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Methods: Six patients newly diagnosed with OLP from September to December 2018 in the Department of Oral Mucosal Diseases, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital and 6 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. RNA sequencing and evaluation in OLP tissues and normal oral mucosa were performed by high-throughput RNA sequencing technology, and the differences between groups were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined 518 patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) in eastern China, revealing a significant female majority (353 females vs. 165 males) and an average diagnosis age of 46.3 years.
  • Approximately 87.8% of patients had lesions on the buccal mucosa, with a near-even split between white lichen (52.3%) and red lichen (47.7%).
  • Importantly, around 1% of the patients developed oral cancer, predominantly affecting non-smoking, non-drinking females, indicating OLP's potential malignancy risk.

Aims:  To investigate clinicopathological features and identify clinicopathological risk factors for the malignant transformation of oral and labial chronic discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) in a relatively large number of patients from China.

Methods And Results: A total of 87 patients with clinical and histopathological diagnosis of DLE between 1993 and 2009 were reviewed retrospectively in our hospital. The average age at diagnosis was 51.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to investigate the incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) developing in lesions that were previously diagnosed as oral lichen planus (OLP), and to evaluate potential contributing factors that might be associated with an increased risk for the development of OSCC in these patients.

Study Design: We retrospectively reviewed a relatively large cohort of 518 patients with OLP who received long-term follow-up (range, 6 months-21.5 years).

Article Synopsis
  • Oral malignant melanoma and melanotic macules are different conditions, and this study aimed to highlight their distinctions through a review of cases.
  • The research examined 52 cases of oral melanotic macules and 130 oral melanoma cases, finding significant differences in patient age, gender ratios, and locations of the lesions.
  • The study suggests that individuals, especially males over 60 with suspected melanotic macules on the palate, should have biopsies to determine if there is a risk of melanoma.

Acquired bilateral nevus-of-Ota-like macule (ABNOM) is a common skin dyspigmentation in Asian females. Although its clinical characteristics are well defined, its epidemiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. A large population-based cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence and risk factors of ABNOM.

Article Synopsis
  • Hericium erinaceum is a traditional edible mushroom in Asia, and researchers extracted polysaccharides from it for analysis.
  • The study used HPLC to determine that the main components of these polysaccharides were glucose and galactose, while FT-IR analysis confirmed their structural characteristics.
  • In tests on aged rats, H. erinaceum polysaccharides improved skin health by boosting antioxidant enzymes and collagen levels, indicating their potential anti-skin-aging effects.
