γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) neurotransmission alterations have been implicated to play a role in depression pathogenesis. While GABA receptor positive allosteric modulators are emerging as promising in clinical practice, their precise antidepressant mechanism remains to be further elucidated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of LY-02, a novel compound derived from the metabolite of timosaponin, on depression in animals and its mechanism.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of nuclear pore complex protein Nup93 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression and metastasis, analyzing data from 729 HCC cases.
  • Elevated levels of Nup93 were found in HCC tissues, particularly in metastatic cases, and were associated with poorer patient prognosis.
  • Nup93 was shown to enhance HCC cell growth and spread by regulating β-catenin movement, suggesting that targeting the Nup93-β-catenin pathway could provide new therapeutic options for HCC treatment.

Background & Aims: Little is known about Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EBVaICC) because of its rarity. We aimed to comprehensively investigate the clinicopathology, tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and genomic landscape of this entity in southern China.

Methods: We evaluated 303 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas (ICCs) using in situ hybridization for EBV.

Cancer cells prefer aerobic glycolysis to maintain growth advantages, but the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in glycometabolism still remains unclear. Here we identified one cytoplasmic lncRNA LINC01554 as a significantly downregulated lncRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and aimed to investigate its role in cellular glucose metabolism in the development and progression of HCC. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to determine the expression level of LINC01554.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies and lacks targeted therapies. Here, we reported a novel potential therapeutic target hematological and neurological expressed 1 like (HN1L) in HCC. First, HCC tissue microarray analysis showed that HN1L was frequently up-regulated in cancer tissues than that in normal liver tissues, which significantly associated with tumor size, local invasion, distant metastases, and poor prognosis for HCC patients.

RNA mediated interference has emerged as a powerful tool in controlling gene expression in mammalian cells. We investigated the gene silencing properties of six thiophosphate substituted siRNAs (all based on a commercial luciferase medium silencer) compared to that of unmodified siRNA. We also examined the cytotoxicity and dose-response using several thiophosphate modified siRNAs with unmodified siRNA.

Adrenomedullin is a potent, endogenous vasodilator peptide synthesized and secreted by diverse locations such as adrenal glands, lungs, kidneys, vascular smooth muscle, and endothelium. Homozygous deletion of the adrenomedullin gene is embryonic lethal. We hypothesized that adrenomedullin has an important role in placental and fetal growth and development in rat pregnancy.
