Article Synopsis
  • - The study compares the effects of an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol versus traditional care on patients undergoing laminoplasty, showing that the ERAS group had a significantly shorter postoperative hospital stay (5.75 days) compared to 7.67 days for the traditional care group.
  • - Patients in the ERAS group experienced quicker recovery milestones, including earlier food intake, assisted walking, and removal of urinary and wound drainage catheters when compared to the traditional group.
  • - Pain control was notably better in the ERAS group, with lower average pain scores reported in the days following surgery, while complication rates were similar between both groups, indicating that ERAS is a safe and effective approach for this type of surgery.

Patients with cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) who are K-line (-) are thought to have poor clinical outcomes after laminoplasty. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical results of patients with OPLL who were K-line (-) in the neck neutral position but K-line (+) in the neck extension position (NEP group) with patients with OPLL who were K-line (+) in the neck neutral position (NNP group).Retrospectively, 42 patients who underwent cervical laminoplasty for OPLL by our surgical group during 2012 and 2013 were reviewed and were followed for at least 2 years.
