Purpose: Targeting mitochondrial ferroptosis presents a promising strategy for mitigating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of the mitochondrial-targeted ferroptosis inhibitor SS-31@Fer-1 (elamipretide@ferrostatin1) in reducing myocardial I/R injury.
Methods: SS-31@Fer-1 was synthesized and applied to H9C2 cells subjected to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) to assess its protective effects.
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) are widely used in cardiovascular applications. However, their potential to induce ferroptosis in myocardial cells post-ischemia-reperfusion hinders clinical adoption. We investigated the mechanisms behind SPION-induced cytotoxicity in myocardial cells and explored whether co-loading SPION with SS-31 (a kind of mitochondrial-targeted antioxidant peptide) could counteract this toxicity.

However, the developmental capacity of in vitro maturation (IVM) oocytes is considerably lower than that of in vivo maturation (IVO) oocytes, owing to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via mitochondrial metabolism, which was higher in IVM oocytes than in IVO oocytes. To avoid the negative effects of ROS on embryo quality, folic acid (FA) was supplemented directly into the IVM medium to antagonize ROS production, however, the mechanisms remain unknown.

It assumes a pivotal role within the renal system, contributing not only to ion transport and immune modulation but also serving as a critical factor in the prevention of urinary tract infections and kidney stone formation. Emerging evidence indicates that uromodulin may serve as a potential biomarker extending beyond renal function.

In RA, RA fibroblastlike synoviocytes( RAFLS) in the joints become abnormally activated and secrete a large amount of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs), and the receptor protein CD44 on the cell membrane is specifically upregulated. Xuetongsu(XTS), an active ingredient in the Tujia ethnomedicine Xuetong, is known to inhibit the proliferation of RAFLS.

Compared with films obtained from neat PLA, the PLA@CRV@CNC-ZnO composite film shows better performance in terms of mechanical properties, ultraviolet (UV) blocking, and antimicrobial effects. The PLA composites containing CRV and 3 wt% CNC-ZnO blends exhibit improved tensile strength (21.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the pharmacological effects and underlying mechanism of Xuetongsu (a key chemical component of Xuetong) on bone destruction. In our previous study, it was found that Xuetong extract can reduce adjuvant arthritic rats paw swelling and inhibit inflammatory factors in serum.

The structure was determined by X-ray crystallography and further analyzed by multiple techniques. The phosphangulenes not only enable ligand substitutions with triphenylphosphines in a cluster-to-cluster transformation way, but also facilitate inter-cluster interactions with fullerenes.

The presence of FGFR translocations enhances tumor cell proliferation and contributes to significant sensitivity to FGFR kinase inhibitors. FGFR2 as an actionable target in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) has been tested in many clinical trials.

Hypothesis: The utilization of emulsion-filled protein hydrogels for controlled lipid release in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) displays great potential in drug delivery and obesity treatment. However, how intermolecular interactions among protein molecules influence lipid digestion of the gels is still understudied.
Experiments: Differently structured whey protein emulsion gels were fabricated by heating emulsions with blocking of disulfide bonds (the "noncovalent" gel), noncovalent interactions (the "disulfide" gel), or neither of these (the "control" gel).
Nutraceuticals which are abundant in foods have attracted much attention due to their bioactive activities of anti-obesity, anti-hyperlipidemia and anti-atherosclerosis. Unfortunately, the poor bioavailability severely undermines their envisioned benefits. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop suitable delivery systems to promote the benefits of their biological activity.

The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in glucose metabolism and gut microbiota between partially (10%) peeled hulless barley (PHB) and whole grain hulless barley (WHB) intervention in obese mice induced by a high-fat diet.

There is, however, still uncertain regarding the role of KLF16 in viral replication and the signaling mechanism of type I IFN. It was discovered that KLF16 inhibited the replication of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) through the type I IFN signaling pathway.

This study was aimed at assessing whether BM examination provides valuable information for positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT)-based staging in this patient population.
Patients And Methods: Patients newly diagnosed with ENKTCL who underwent initial staging with both PET/CT and BM examination between 2013 and 2020 were retrospectively identified in two Chinese institutions.
Epimedokoreanin B (EKB) is a prenylated flavonoid isolated from Epimedium koreanum. In this article, we described the anti-cancerous effects of EKB and its underlying mechanism in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 and NCI-H292 cells. EKB treatment inhibited cell proliferation and migration accompanied by cytoplasmic vacuolation in both cell lines.

Ambient cold is associated with substantial population attributable fraction of mortality in China, and respiratory health is vulnerable to cold exposure. This study aimed to examine the effect of cold spells on risk of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We collected daily data on deaths from COPD and climatic factors from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2019 in 13 cities of Jiangsu Province, China.
