Article Synopsis
  • Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is a serious type of blood cancer that affects blood-making cells.
  • Researchers found that a protein called CaMKIIγ is more active in AML patients and is connected to how the cancer cells grow and stay alive.
  • By reducing the levels of CaMKIIγ in some lab-created AML cells, they discovered that it made the cells less capable of surviving and multiplying, showing that CaMKIIγ is important for keeping these cancer stem cells alive.

MicroRNA-126 (miR-126) was found down-regulated in different types of cancer including esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the onco-genetic role of miR-126 in ESCC still remains unknown. In the present study, we found the relative expression of miR-126 in ESCC was significant decreased in ESCC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues.
