Article Synopsis
  • * From December 2019 to January 2020, researchers collected water samples, finding significant variations in dissolved trace elements in the Ganges and Meghna Rivers, while the Brahmaputra River and G-B-M Estuary showed uniformity.
  • * Urban areas had higher concentrations of trace elements, and the G-B-M Estuary exhibited changes in iron and lead levels along the salinity gradient, suggesting the need to re-evaluate trace element flux into the oceans, particularly in light of recent reductions in Fe and Pb concentrations. *

  • Ginseng dietary fiber (Ginseng-DF) helps protect the gut lining and boost the immune system in mice.
  • In experiments, Ginseng-DF improved immune functions and repaired damage caused by a medication called CTX.
  • Using Ginseng-DF could be a safe way to strengthen the immune system and support gut health!

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on nitrogen levels in the lower Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna River system, finding that nitrate (NO) was the main type of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) present, particularly near industrial areas.
  • - Ammonium levels rose in the Meghna River due to sewage from local industries, while in the estuary, high nitrification rates caused an increase in nitrate levels despite removal processes.
  • - As the water moved toward the coastal ocean, DIN concentrations dropped because of seawater dilution and biological uptake, highlighting the connection between river inputs and the health of marine ecosystems.

A new and accurate method using resin enrichment of Ga, combined with isotope dilution, was developed to determine its dissolved concentrations in natural waters. The extraction properties of Chelex-100, Nobias Chelate PA-1, and Presep® PolyChelate resins for Ga from river water and seawater were compared. Experiments were conducted to determine the optimal pH range, capacity to eliminate matrix and interference, extraction and elution times, and ideal quantity of resin beads.

Article Synopsis
  • An annual medicinal herb called L. was identified as suffering from a fungal disease in a field in China during July 2021, affecting over 32% of the plants.
  • Symptoms included irregular gray spots on the leaves which expanded from older to younger ones, resulting in lesions that developed a white center and could merge.
  • Ten symptomatic leaves were collected for lab analysis, leading to the isolation of fifteen fungal strains, with isolate JL6 selected for further study, showing characteristics consistent with specific fungi descriptions and confirmed through genetic sequencing.

ATP-binding cassette(ABC) transporters are one of the largest protein families in organisms, with important effects in regulating plant growth and development, root morphology, transportation of secondary metabolites and resistance of stress. Environmental stress promotes the biosynthesis and accumulation of secondary metabolites, which determines the quality of medicinal plants. Therefore, how to improve the accumulation of secondary metabolites has been a hotspot in studying medicinal plants.

Background/aims: To evaluate the use of plasma exchange (PE) combined with the molecular adsorbent re-circulating system (MARS) for the treatment of liver failure complicated with hepatic encephalopathy.

Methodology: A prospective randomized controlled study was conducted to compare the therapeutic effect of MARS treatment (MARS group, n=60) with that of PE combined with MARS treatment (PE+MARS group, n=60) in patients with liver failure complicated with hepatic encephalopathy.

Results: The serum total bilirubin and blood ammonia levels were significantly decreased compared with pretreatment levels after 3 days of both the MARS treatment (p=0.

Unmethylated CpG dinucleotides in bacterial DNA or synthetic oligodeoxynucleotides containing immunostimulatory CpG motifs (CpG ODN) are known as a potent Th1-like immune enhancer in vertebrates. Chronic hepatitis B is the immunocompromising condition. We therefore investigated the effects of CpG ODN on cultured cells from chronic hepatitis B patients and healthy controls.
