Article Synopsis
  • Elevated blood pressure (BP), particularly systolic and diastolic BP, may increase the risk of myocardial infarction (MI), but the exact causal relationship was uncertain and is explored in this study.
  • The researchers used a method called bidirectional Mendelian randomization, analyzing genetic variants associated with BP and MI in large cohorts to assess potential causal links.
  • Results indicated that while higher BP levels could lead to an increased risk of MI, there was no evidence that MI causes changes in BP, highlighting the importance of managing BP for preventing heart issues.
