Winged aphids develop more sensitive olfaction than the wingless phenotype to identify potential habitat from afar. Two types of olfactory sensilla, primary rhinarium (PRh) and secondary rhinarium (SRh) are responsible for aphid olfactory perception, of which, SRh is involved in the perception of both E-β-farnesene (EBF) and plant volatiles. Odorant binding proteins (OBPs) play a vital role in the response of insect olfactory nerves located in the rhinarium to external odor stimuli.

In order to improve the oxygen barrier performance of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a simple and economical melt blending method was chosen and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH) with excellent oxygen barrier was used as the reinforcing phase to meet high oxygen needs. To improve compatibility, PLA was grafted onto PVOH through L-LA ring opening polymerization to get poly(vinyl alcohol)-graft-poly(lactic acid) (PVOH-g-PLA). The films with high oxygen barrier performance were prepared by blending PLA with PVOH-g-PLA.

While metabolic reprogramming and remodeling of tumor microenvironment play important roles in the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), the mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we found that pancreatic progenitor cell differentiation and proliferation factor (PPDPF) is upregulated in ESCC and its expression level is associated with lymph node metastasis. PPDPF was found to promote tumorigenesis, lymph node metastasis and distal metastasis of ESCC cells.

Stem cell grafting can promote glial repair of adult stroke injuries during the subacute wound healing phase, but graft survival and glial repair outcomes are perturbed by lesion severity and mode of injury. To better understand how stroke lesion environments alter the functions of cell grafts, we employed optical coherence tomography (OCT) to longitudinally image mouse cortical photothrombotic ischemic strokes treated with allogeneic neural progenitor cell (NPC) grafts. OCT angiography, signal intensity, and signal decay resulting from optical scattering were assessed at multiple timepoints across two weeks in mice receiving an NPC graft or an injection of saline at two days after stroke.

The issue of whether smart city construction (SCC) can promote urban green development (UGD) is controversial. To address this problem, first, a UGD evaluation index system with four dimensions, namely, green production, green living, green growth, and green ecology, is developed in this study to measure the UGD level. Second, the causal relationship between SCC and UGD is examined by using a double machine learning model.

A multi-functional single-Fe-atom nanozyme (Fe-SAzyme) is designed, integrating the near-infrared photothermal property, the ability to carry chemoagent (doxorubicin - DOX), and nanocatalytic activities mimicking peroxidase, oxidase, and glutathione oxidase. The nanocatalytic activities act cooperatively to effectively produce cytotoxic radicals in the tumor microenvironment (TME), thereby leading to ferroptosis of cancer cells. The photothermal effect not only enhances the nanocatalytic therapy but also enables photothermal therapy.

Metal-containing nanoparticles (MNPs) ubiquitously exist in the environment and organisms, playing distinct roles in the fate and toxicity of metals. However, the extraction and analysis of the MNPs in biological samples is still a great challenge and the interferences of other metal species and complex matrices remains unclear. In this work, we established a method for efficient extraction and accurate analysis of MNPs in biological samples to eliminate the interference caused by metal ions and biological matrices based on the alkali extraction and single particle mode inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (SP-ICP-MS).

The evolution of energy structure and the push for carbon neutrality have triggered an urgent call for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, reclaiming end-of-life LIBs with high purity, high efficiency, and low environmental impact, particularly by eliminating chemical reagent usage and promoting a closed-loop carbon footprint, is challenging. Herein, we proposed a strategy that couples the carbon capture (CC) process with an electrochemically enhanced membrane distillation system (ECMD).
