This study investigates the effect of silanol density on the surface of glass containers on the stability of monoclonal antibody (mAb) formulations subjected to mechanical stress. By calcining Type I glass containers at different temperatures, we altered the concentration of silanols on the glass surface and examined its impact on the stability of protein formulations under mechanical stress. Contact angle measurements and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy indicated that silanol formation influences the hydrophilicity of the surface.

The hydraulic conditions vary significantly across different segments of the drinking water distribution system (DWDS), leading to distinct variations in water quality throughout the system. Understanding these changes in water quality and biofilm development over time is crucial for enhancing drinking water management efficiency. This study focused on replicating the hydraulic conditions found in transmission and distribution pipelines within a specific pipeline path of the DWDS in Singapore using a biofilm annular reactor series system (BARSS).

Polymers are promising as stabilizers for developing eco-friendly foam extinguishing agents to solve the imminent pollution problem of fluorinated ones. Present work aims to elucidate the mechanisms by which polymers influence the performance of non-fluorinated foams. Specifically, it investigates the effects of three polymers-xanthan gum (XG), sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMCNa), and gelatin (GEL) on surface tension, conductivity, viscosity, foamability, foam stability, and rheology of the siloxane-based Gemini/sodium alpha-alkenyl sulfonate mixture.

With the development of the nuclear industry, the direct discharge of uranium-containing wastewater has become increasingly harmful to the environment. A novel graphene oxide-supported and phosphoric-crosslinked chitosan gel bead (C-PGCB) with excellent uranium uptake capability was successfully fabricated to treat uranium-containing wastewater. The experimental results showed that the introduction of PO and CO bonds through phosphoric acid crosslinking could greatly improve the capturing ability of chitosan-based materials, which could reach 97.

The three-amino-acid-loop-extension (TALE) homeodomain transcription factor family, including the KNOX and BELL subfamilies, is one of the largest gene families in plants. This family encodes plant-specific transcription factors that play critical roles in regulating plant growth, development, and stress responses. However, their interaction network, as well as resistant functional mechanism in is rarely reported.

Background: Metabolic alterations have been shown to instigate liver inflammation in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), but the underlying mechanism is not fully elucidated. During MASLD progression, intrahepatic CD3TCRαβCD4CD8 double negative T regulatory cells (DNT) decrease cell survival and immunosuppressive function, leading to aggravated liver inflammation. In this study, we aim to reveal the underlying mechanisms that cause changes in DNT during MASLD progression.

Oxidative stress (OS) inhibits the osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs). Equol (Eq), a phytoestrogen, exhibits notable antioxidant properties and potential for preventing osteoporosis. However, the research on the regulatory effects of Eq on stem cell osteogenesis remains limited.

Background & Aims: Given the impact of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on T cell activation and proliferation functions, we aim to explore the heterogeneity of follicular cytotoxic T (Tfc) cells in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with NAFLD.

Methods: 32 healthy controls (HCs), 36 treatment-naïve CHB patients, and 19 treatment-naïve CHB + NAFLD patients were recruited. We employed multicolor flow cytometry to assess the exhausted phenotype and functionality of Tfc cells.

Endothelial inflammation caused by hyperglycemia contributes to cardiovascular complications in patients with diabetes. Diabetic kidney injury (DKI) is one of the most significant manifestations of diabetes-related renal damage, encompassing both acute and early chronic kidney injury. DKI involves pathological mechanisms linked to inflammatory responses and early renal damage, which, if left unchecked, may progress to diabetic kidney disease.

Eutrophication of lake and reservoir caused by cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) become a global ecological problem because of massive destruction of ecosystems, which have attracted attentions widely. In addition to the production of cyanotoxins by certain bloom-forming species, there may also be direct or indirect interactions between cyanobacteria blooms and various pollutants in lakes or reservoirs. Based on bibliometrics, 19110 papers in Web of Science (WOS) and 2998 papers in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) on eutrophication and cyanobacterial blooms in lakes and reservoirs were analyzed, which showed that research on this topic has been ongoing for nearly 80 years with a gradual increase in its popularity.

Insect parasitoids have evolved sophisticated strategies to evade or modulate host immunity for parasitic infections. The precise mechanisms by which parasitoids counteract host anti-parasitic responses are poorly defined. Here we report a novel immune evasion strategy employed by the parasitoid Exorista sorbillans (Diptera: Tachinidae) to establish infection.

In this study, an innovative electrochemical biosensor was developed for the rapid, specific, and sensitive detection of Acinetobacter baumannii without the need for sample pretreatment. The biosensor utilized an aptamer as a specific capture probe for A. baumannii and employed a self-powered DNAzyme walker cleavage cycle reaction to achieve signal amplification.

Background: Fatty acid metabolism (FAM) plays a critical role in tumor progression and therapeutic resistance by enhancing lipid biosynthesis, storage, and catabolism. Dysregulated FAM is a hallmark of prostate cancer (PCa), enabling cancer cells to adapt to extracellular signals and metabolic changes, with the tumor microenvironment (TME) playing a key role. However, the prognostic significance of FAM in PCa remains unexplored.

With the impact of global climate change, drought events are becoming more frequent, making it critically important to quantitatively evaluate the effects of these events on air pollution. This study uses the augmented synthetic control method and the mediation effect model to quantitatively evaluate the impact effect of the winter-spring drought of 2023 on PM-O compound pollution and its driving factors with Chinese prefecture-level city data. This study indicates that: firstly, compared to non-drought periods, both the monthly averaged and diurnal variations pattern of PM and O significantly increased during drought periods.

Motor-free visual perception abilities are important reference indicator for children's literacy skills. In the absence of Chinese norms, this study utilized the motor-free visual perception test-4 (MVPT-4) to assess the visual perception abilities of children aged 5-12 years in Xuzhou, China, to lay the foundation for establishing standardized norms in China. From May to July 2023, a stratified random sampling method was used to conduct MVPT-4 evaluation on 525 kindergarten and primary school children in Xuzhou, China.

Terahertz (THz) emission arising from the second-order nonlinear photocurrent effects in two-dimensional quantum materials has attracted significant attention due to its high efficiency and ease of polarization manipulation. However, in centrosymmetric quantum materials, the terahertz emission is typically suppressed, caused by the directional symmetry of the photocurrent generated under femtosecond laser excitation. In this work, we report that wafer-scale type-II Dirac semimetal PtTe with lattice centrosymmetry exhibits remarkably high THz emission efficiency (2 orders of magnitude greater than that of a ZnTe nonlinear crystal with equivalent thickness) and pronounced polarization sensitivity at room temperature.

Rapeseed meal (RSM), a protein-rich byproduct, holds potential as a high-quality animal feed, but nitrile compounds derived from glucosinolates (GSLs) in RSM pose a toxicity risk. Nitrilases, enzymes that hydrolyze toxic nitriles to carboxylic acids, offer a potential solution for detoxification. However, the low thermal stability of nitrilases restricts their industrial applicability.
