Objective: Late 2019 witnessed the outbreak and widespread transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a new, highly contagious disease caused by novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Consequently, considerable attention has been paid to the development of new diagnostic tools for the early detection of SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: In this study, a new poly-N-isopropylacrylamide microgel-based electrochemical sensor was explored to detect the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (S protein) in human saliva.
Objective: Ultrasound imaging provides a fast and safe examination of thyroid nodules. Recently, the introduction of super-resolution imaging technique shows the capability of breaking the Ultrasound diffraction limit in imaging the micro-vessels. The aim of this study was to evaluate its feasibility and value for the differentiation of thyroid nodules.

Over the last several decades, ultrasound contrast agents have been widely applied in ultrasound molecular cancer imaging to improve the detection, characterization, and quantification of tumors. To date, a few new potential preclinical and clinical applications regarding ultrasound molecular cancer imaging are being investigated.

For the fluorescence imaging technology, optical tweezers are introduced to overcome the fluid viscosity interference and immobilize a single tested bead at the laser focus to guarantee a fairly precise imaging condition. For the selection of fluorescent materials and the signal acquisition means, a type of innovative luminescence confined upconversion nanoparticle with a unique sandwich structure is specially designed to act as an efficient energy donor to trigger the luminescent resonance energy transfer (LRET) process.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA simple design of an ultrathin six-band polarization-insensitive terahertz perfect metamaterial absorber (PMMA), composed of a metal cross-cave patch resonator (CCPR) placed over a ground plane, was proposed and investigated numerically. The numerical simulation results demonstrate that the average absorption peaks are up to 95% at six resonance frequencies. Owing to the ultra-narrow band resonance absorption of the structure, the designed PMMA also exhibits a higher Q factor (>65).

Square wave voltammetry (SWV) is for the first time, the method used to monitor the olfactory receptor/odorant recognition process. The relative variation of the Cu(I)-Cu(II) current peak increases linearly versus log (concentration of androstenone) from 10(-14)M to 10(-4)M, in buffer solution.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA simple and highly sensitive approach for the detection of the anti-neoplastic drug gemcitabine is presented, based on a one-step electropolymerized molecularly imprinted microporous-metal-organic-framework. The sensitive layer was prepared by electropolymerization of the aniline moieties of p-aminothiophenol- gold nanoparticles on the surface of gold electrodes tethered with p-aminothiophenol, in the presence of gemcitabine as a template molecule. Experimental parameters that control the performance of the sensor were investigated and optimized.
