Designing heterogeneous metal-free catalysts for highly efficient transformation of CO into valuable products is a dream goal and a long-standing challenge in thermal catalysis. Herein, N-doped nanocarbon catalysts, NOLCx, are synthesized and present an attractive ability to catalyse CO hydroboration. N doping on the NOLCx surface mainly exists in the form of pyridinic N, pyrrolic N and graphitic N, where pyridinic N and pyrrolic N are the possible catalytic active sites.

Visible light-driven photocatalytic CO reduction (CORR) offers a sustainable and promising solution to environmental and energy challenges. However, the design of efficient photocatalysts is hindered by poor interface interactions in heterojunctions and a limited understanding of reaction kinetics. A modified FeO photocatalyst, M-FeO@MXene, is introduced featuring KH-550-modified M-FeO hollow nanocubes coated with MXene, constructed via an electrostatic and Fe-O-Ti bonding self-assembly method.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel Fe-doped ZIF-8 was created as an effective adsorbent for removing phosphate from water, showing a surface area of 157.64 m²/g and an average pore size of 3.055 nm.
  • Characterization techniques confirmed the successful incorporation of iron into the structure, and the phosphate adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model with high accuracy (R² = 0.9983).
  • The optimal phosphate adsorption occurred at an initial pH of 2, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 38.60 mg/g, and the process was primarily influenced by surface complexation interactions.

Background: Cell wall integrity (CWI) is crucial for fungal growth, pathogenesis, and adaptation to extracellular environments. Calcofluor white (CFW) is a cell wall perturbant that inhibits fungal growth, yet little is known about how phytopathogenic fungi respond to the CFW-induced stress.

Results: In this study, we unveiled a significant discovery that CFW triggered the translocation of the transcription factor CgCrzA from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.

The improvement in the utilization rate and nutritional value of soybean meal (SBM) represents a significant challenge in the feed industry. This study conducted a 50 kg SBM fermentation based on the 300 g small-scale fermentation of SBM in early laboratory research, to explore the combined effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and acid protease on fermentation quality, chemical composition, microbial population, and macromolecular protein degradation during fermentation and aerobic exposure of SBM in simulated actual production. The results demonstrated that the increase in crude protein content and reduction in crude fiber content were considerably more pronounced after fermentation for 30 days (d) and subsequent aerobic exposure, compared to 3 d.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of liver cancer, accounting for approximately 90 % of all cases. ONC201, a member of the imipridone drug family, has shown promising therapeutic potential and a good safety profile in both malignant pediatric central nervous system tumors (diffuse midline glioma [DMG]) and hematologic malignancies. ONC206 is a more potent analog of ONC201.

In recent years, enveloped micro-nanobubbles have garnered significant attention in research due to their commendable stability, biocompatibility, and other notable properties. Currently, the preparation methods of enveloped micro-nanobubbles have limitations such as complicated preparation process, large bubble size, wide distribution range, low yield, etc. There exists an urgent demand to devise a simple and efficient method for the preparation of enveloped micro-nanobubbles, ensuring both high concentration and a uniform particle size distribution.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most common mycotoxins distributed in food and feed, which causes severe liver injury in humans and animals. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has received much attention in mycotoxin degradation due to the advantages of easy operation, high efficiency, and low temperature. So far, the majority of studies have focused on the degradation efficiency and mechanism of CAP on DON, while there is still little information available on the hepatotoxicity of DON after CAP treatment.

The utilization of transcriptome analysis, functional validation, VIGS, and DAB techniques have provided evidence that GhiPLATZ17 and GhiPLATZ22 play a pivotal role in improving the salt tolerance of upland cotton. PLATZ (Plant AT-rich sequences and zinc-binding proteins) are known to be key regulators in plant growth, development, and response to salt stress. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the PLATZ family in ten cotton species in response to salinity stress.

Due to the serious ecological problems caused by the high CO content in the atmosphere, reducing atmospheric CO has attracted widespread attention from academia and governments. Among the many ways to mitigate CO concentration, the capture and comprehensive utilization of CO through chemical methods have obvious advantages, whose key is to develop suitable adsorbents and catalysts. Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) are known to bind CO through the interaction between unquenched Lewis acid sites/Lewis base sites with the O/C of CO, simultaneously achieving CO capture and activation, which render FLP better potential for CO utilization.

Article Synopsis
  • The GH13 family is vital for α-glucoside linkages in plants, impacting their growth, development, and stress responses, yet its specific functions in plants are not well-explored.
  • Researchers identified 66 GH13 members in wheat, categorizing them into four subgroups, with a notable concentration on wheat group 7 chromosomes and significant evolutionary differences among them.
  • Analysis shows that GH13 gene expression is influenced by environmental stresses, particularly drought and submergence, and varies between different wheat varieties, highlighting its importance in germination and starch metabolism.

The metallization of alkaline earth metal hydrides offers a way to achieve near-room temperature superconductivity. In order to explore the metallization mechanism of these hydrides under pressure, a detailed understanding of the property changes of alkaline earth metal hydrides is required. Based on first-principles calculations, we have systematically investigated the dihydrides (XH, X = Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) and tetrahydrides (XH, X = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) of alkaline earth metals, respectively.

This work aimed to compare the effects of helium and air surface micro-discharge (SMD) plasma on the microbial safety and quality of beef tissues. For the beef tissue model, the concentration and diffusion depth of hydroxyl radical and ozone have different change patterns over plasma treatment time and distance in helium and air SMD plasma. The inactivation efficiency of helium plasma depended on the plasma treatment time and distance, while the inactivation efficiency of air plasma only depended on the treatment time.

There are numerous examples of materials that exhibit interesting phenomena at extremely low temperatures, but the difficulty of obtaining absolute zero at high pressure in experiments is sometimes a hurdle to reveal the exact explanation of these low temperature phenomena. Based on the calculations of the phonon spectrum and Gibbs free energy of α-N and γ-N under different pressures, we found that solid nitrogen at 0 K showed a re-entrant phase transition under continuously increasing pressure. The extremely low temperature in this pressure range turned out to be the main external condition for inducing phase transition as well as phase reversal.
