Experiments with pigs, lambs, sheep, and birds, carried out under various conditions of feeding (with or without supplement or treatment with vitamin E) revealed that the study of the peroxide resistance of erythrocyte lipids could render useful information on the supply of animals with vitamin E. The study of peroxide resistance was shown to be much more accessible than the available chemical methods, and had better reproducibility. This new approach took good consideration of the biologic activity of vitamin E, and was fairly suitable to be employed as a screening diagnostic method.

Studied was a broth received from the T. Dokov leather factory in Etropole, prepared of swine skin subepidermal layer (BSSS). As many as 28 samples of BSSS were studied with regard to crude protein, crude fats, and aldehyde and peroxide numbers.

Studies were carried out on the hatchability and broiler-bird viability in dependence on meeting the needs of parental birds of vitamins A and E. The experiments were carried out under productive conditions with material taken from four poultry farms. The forage mixtures intended for parental birds were sampled with regard to studying the content of carotene, vitamins A and E, fats, aldehydes, protein calcium, and phosphorus.

Studied was the content of vitamins A and E as well as that of fats, aldehydes, and peroxides and the biologic activity of vitamin E with regard to the amount of santoquin in combined forage mixtures for birds. The experiments were carried out with a finisher forage mixture for broilers to which santoquin was added in amounts of 0.010, 0.

Studies were carried out on the dissemination of encephalomalation with chickens. The quality of the feeding-mixes, meant for the different categories of fowls, was also studied with regard to the contents of vitamins, fats, aldehyde and peroxide number and antioxidizers. The contents of vitamin E was also determined, as well as its biological activity in a biological material.

Studies were carried out on the immune response of birds-parental forms of broilers--in the combined use of an inactivated vaccine Dessau and a live avirulent vaccine La Sota. The dynamics was followed up till the age of 58 weeks of the changes taking place at an antidody level, and the resistance of the birds after challenging with a virulent virus. After the first immunization with a killed vaccine there was an average geometric titer of 78.

Investigations were carried out on the immunogenesis and the serum-protein profile in the treatment of broilers with the protein hydrolysate Hydroprot as well as with Newcastle disease vaccine. The treatment with Hydroprot led to a lower average geometric titer of antibodies--6.4 on the 14th, 6.
