The purpose of the study is to establish characteristics of quality of life of adolescents and substantiate it as a reference criterion of pre-nosologic condition of health for mass screening observations of adolescent population. During puberty, in adolescents, mainly in girls, deterioration of quality of life is established. At that, minimal indices of quality of life were registered in adolescents 12 years old, that is probably conditioned by decreasing of level of functioning of central and respiratory systems against the background of vegetative balance disorders in this age group as compared with students of other age groups.

Background: The G1 and G2 alleles of apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) are common in the Black population and associated with increased risk of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). The molecular mechanisms linking APOL1 risk variants with FSGS are not clearly understood, and APOL1's natural absence in laboratory animals makes studying its pathobiology challenging.

Methods: In a cohort of 90 Black patients with either FSGS or minimal change disease (MCD) enrolled in the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (58% pediatric onset), we used kidney biopsy traits as an intermediate outcome to help illuminate tissue-based consequences of APOL1 risk variants and expression.

Maternal selection and overlapping generations can facilitate the stable coexistence of alleles under temporally fluctuating environment. Using mathematical models, we considered the complex effect of both factors on the maintenance of genetic polymorphism in cyclically changing environments. We concentrated on asymmetric cyclic selection, which allows describing fluctuations of environments by analogy of food resources cycles with rare peaks and prolonged decline of prey abundance.

The paper presents scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies on the magnetic domain structure (DS) using magnetic colloid. The possibility of colloid-SEM method for observing the DS of mono- and polycrystalline samples in the secondary (SEI) and backscattered electrons modes (BEC) is demonstrated. Owing to the large focal depth of SEM, it is possible to observe the overall DS and fine features, even in unpollished samples.

An investigation of the nature of dynamics of the population size and genetic structure is carried out for a homogeneous ecologically limited population influenced by density-dependent r-K selection in a single diallelic genetic locus. The detailed study of the results of basic types of natural selection is carried out with additional consideration of the influence of initial conditions. It is shown that coexistence of several different asymptotic dynamic modes (with their own attraction basins) is possible in numerous enough parametric domains which are meaningful biologically.

The review presents current data concerning the functional role of endothelial cell adhesion molecules belonging to different structural families: integrins, selectins, cadherins, and the immunoglobulin super-family. In this manuscript the regulatory mechanisms and factors of adhesion molecules expression and distribution on the surface of endothelial cells are discussed. The Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (NEPTUNE) is a North American multicenter collaborative consortium established to develop a translational research infrastructure for nephrotic syndrome. This includes a longitudinal observational cohort study, a pilot and ancillary study program, a training program, and a patient contact registry. A multicenter trial involving 30 newborns with post-hypoxic myocardial lesions associated with I-II degree cerebral ischemia has revealed that the inclusion of cytoflavin infusions into the complex standard treatment leads, besides the improvement of general clinical status, to significantly more rapid, as compared to the control group, positive dynamics of pump and contractile myocardial functions, elimination of hyperenzymemia, hypoxia and electrical instability of the myocardium, decrease in energetic deficit, and repolarization changes within the first 5 days of in-hospital therapy as well as during the follow-up from 1 to 6 months of life.

A mathematical model of the changes in the size and genetic diversity of a harvested, single-locus Mendelian population under the conditions of density-dependent selection is analyzed, with a special emphasis on the possibility of conserving or loosing polymorphism as a result of equilibrium harvesting. It is demonstrated that harvesting leads to changes in intrapopulation parameters under the conditions of density-dependent selection; as a result, the genotypes that were the least fit in an unharvested population will prove more fit, the genetic composition of the population at equilibrium being changed accordingly. Thus, harvesting may, under different conditions, either conserve or reduce the genetic diversity of the population.
