Background: Both the traditional loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) and the newly developed 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) are used to treat high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions. However, the clinical efficacy and safety of these two therapies have rarely been compared. Thus, this study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of the two treatment regimens.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence, survival and prognostic factors of cervical cancer with lung metastasis at the initial diagnosis and to develop a visual nomogram to predict the prognosis of these patients.

Methods: We used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database to screen patients diagnosed with cervical cancer from 2010 to 2015. After strict inclusion and exclusion, the chi-square test was used to evaluate the differences in the clinical characteristics of patients with cervical cancer, and then we used Kaplan-Meier method to perform survival analysis among cervical cancer patients with lung metastasis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to identify risk factors associated with the persistence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and the chances of residual lesions or recurrence after loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), focusing on the predictive value of intraoperative HPV testing.
  • Researchers collected endocervical samples from 292 patients after LEEP, conducting HPV genotyping and monitoring patients every 3-6 months to evaluate various risk factors.
  • Findings showed that positive intraoperative HPV tests, being post-menopausal, and having preoperative HPV multiplex infections were significant predictors of HPV persistence and potential recurrence, indicating that IOP-HPV testing could help identify high-risk patients for more tailored follow-up.

Background: We launched a single-arm phase II study to determine the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) before concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

Methods: Eligible patients received pretreatment PEG and enteral nutrition during CCRT. The primary outcome was the change of weight during CCRT.

This study was to investigate the incidence, survival and prognostic factors of cervical cancer with distant organ metastasis, and to develop a nomogram to predict the prognosis of cervical cancer. We used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database to screen patients diagnosed with cervical cancer from 2010 to 2014. The chi-squared test was used to analyse the differences in clinical characteristics, and we used Kaplan-Meier methods to perform survival analysis.

Objective: Peripheral systemic inflammatory, nutritional, and coagulation biomarkers have prognostic and predictive value in various malignancies. We evaluated the prognostic and predictive roles of systemic inflammatory, nutritional, and coagulation biomarkers in the circulating blood of patients with advanced cervical cancer.

Methods: A retrospective study of 795 patients with cervical cancer who received concurrent chemoradiation therapy was performed.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the prominent causes of mortality in female patients diagnosed with gynecologic malignancies. While it has previously been demonstrated that apigenin inhibits cell growth in colon and breast cancer cells, the effect of apigenin in OC cells is not fully understood. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of apigenin on cell death and resistance to cisplatin in OC cells.

Background: Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) has a high-risk for recurrence and may precede genital cancers, such as vaginal cancer and/or other invasive diseases. Human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced VAIN may occur after loop electrosurgical excision procedures (LEEPs) or panhysterectomy. 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) has demonstrated utility in preventing the recurrence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN); however, evaluation of its effect on VAIN has not been performed.

Introduction: Accumulating evidences have suggested a crucial role of epigenetics in the initiation and progression of pre-eclampsia (PE). Here, we studied the expression of the metalloproteinase ADAMTS7 and the methylation level of its promoter in PE placentas and investigated ADAMTS7 role in the pathogenesis of PE.

Methods: We first explored ADAMTS7 expression in PE and normal placentas by reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), western blot, and immunohistochemistry.

The coexistence of arsenic (As) and fluoride (F) in drinking water is an urgent environmental issue that causes increasing public concerns. The need for effective simultaneous removal of As and F has motived great research efforts. Herein, a novel {201}TiO-ZrO composite was synthesized and its application mechanism was explored.

Background: Colorectal surgery is associated with high rates of surgical site infection (SSI). We investigated SSI in radical resection of colon or rectal carcinoma and its epidemiological distribution in 26 hospitals in China.

Methods: We conducted prospective surveillance of patients who underwent radical resection of colon or rectal carcinoma in 26 selected hospitals from January 2015 to June 2016.

In this study, different crystalline structures of FeOOH have been prepared. α-FeOOH was synthesized through a hydrothermal method, whereas β-FeOOH was synthesized a direct hydrolysis method. Moreover, γ- and δ-FeOOH were prepared by precipitation methods through slow and quick oxidation, respectively.

BACKGROUND This study examined the effect of kaempferol on uterine fibroids in vitro and the underlying mechanism, and investigated the potential of kaempferol as a clinical drug for the treatment of uterine fibroids. MATERIAL AND METHODS Uterine fibroid tissue and surrounding smooth muscle tissue were collected for primary culture. Different concentrations of kaempferol (12 μM, 24 μM, and 48 μM) were used to treat the cells for 24, 48, and 72 hours.

Magnetic FeO nanoparticles were synthesized and used as peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator in the presence of ultrasound (US) irritation for azo dye degradation in this study. At pH 7.0 and temperature 298K, FeO nanoparticles were able to activate PMS under ultrasound irritation to produce sulfate radicals for acid orange 7 (AO7) removal in 30min.

Objective: To observe the clinical effects of Biqi Capsule (BQC) combined with methotrexate (MTX) for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to study an effective protocol of RA treated by integrative medicine.

Methods: One hundred and thirty-eight patients with RA were randomly assigned to Group I (44 cases, treated by BQC), Group II (46 cases, treated by MTX), and Group III (48 cases, treated by BQC combined with MTX). The therapeutic course for each group was 12 weeks.

Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of total glucosides of paeony (TGP) on lupus nephritis (LN) in MRL/lpr mice.

Methods: MRL/lpr mice with lupus nephritis were randomized into model group and TGP group. The urinary protein content was detected using Coomassie brilliant blue, and the serum levels of IgG anti-double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibodies and antinuclear antibodies (ANA) were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
