Article Synopsis
  • * A resistant population of wild oat showed a moderate increase (5.9-fold) in resistance to flucarbazone-sodium, and its resistance could be reduced by pre-treating with malathion, though known mutation sites were absent in this population.
  • * The study found that the resistance mechanism involves non-target site resistance (NTSR) and identified two genes (CYP92A6 and Aldo/keto reductase) that may play a role in how the R population

Th17 cell, an important subpopulation of helper T cell, plays an important role in the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is thought to be a potential target for the treatment of IBD. In our previous study, we demonstrated that α-mangostin could relieve lupus nephritis via inhibiting Th17 cell function. In our preliminary study, we obtained four derivatives by adding chemical modification of α-mangostin which could also inhibit Th17 cell differentiation in vitro.

Crabgrass () is a common malignant weed in corn fields in China. Recently, the acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor, nicosulfuron, has shown decreasing efficacy against crabgrass. In order to elucidate the molecular basis of resistance to nicosulfuron in crabgrass, we conducted bioassays, combined with gene sequence analysis, relative expression and relative copy number analysis, to characterize resistance in crabgrass populations collected from Beijing, Heilongjiang, Jilin and Anhui provinces.

Article Synopsis
  • L. is a persistent broadleaf weed affecting winter wheat in China, showing significant resistance to the herbicide tribenuron-methyl, particularly in Hebei Province.
  • The resistant population exhibited a 382.3-fold increase in resistance levels and also had cross-resistance to other ALS inhibitors, but could still be controlled with certain alternative herbicides.
  • Genetic analysis revealed a specific mutation in the ALS gene (Trp-574-Leu) in the resistant population, along with indications of metabolic resistance mechanisms involving cytochrome P450 enzymes.

The evolved acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibiting herbicide-resistant redroot amaranth has been confirmed in China and caused a great loss in soybean production. This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and competitiveness of ALS-resistant (R) and ALS-susceptible (S) redroot amaranth biotypes. Seeds of both R and S biotypes were subjected to different temperature regimes.

Article Synopsis
  • Redroot amaranth (Amaranthus retroflexus L.) is a troublesome weed negatively impacting soybean farming in China, prompting studies on its resistance to the herbicide bentazone.
  • Two populations of the weed showed significant resistance to bentazone, with resistance indices of 9.01 and 6.85, and increased expression of the psbA gene after bentazone treatment, without amino acid changes in the gene.
  • Additionally, the R1 population had multiple resistances to other herbicides and showed a decrease in resistance when treated with the P450 inhibitor malathion, suggesting that elevated gene expression and herbicide metabolism contribute to their resistance.

  • Common lambsquarters (C. album) is a weed that can harm soybean crops, and two populations suspected of being resistant to the herbicide imazethapyr were studied.
  • The population 1744 showed 16.5-fold resistance to imazethapyr, while 1731 exhibited 18.8-fold resistance, along with varying levels of resistance to thifensulfuron-methyl and fomesafen.
  • Genetic analysis revealed specific mutations in the ALS gene related to resistance, with additional findings suggesting that other resistance mechanisms may be involved in population 1731.

In crop fields, resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides found in many troublesome weed species, including Thunb, is a worldwide problem. In particular, the development of herbicide resistance in is a severe threat to wheat production in China. The purpose of this research was to investigate the physiological and molecular basis of resistance to flucarbazone-sodium.

Article Synopsis
  • Two populations of black-grass in China, R2105 and R1027, were found to be highly resistant to the herbicide clodinafop-propargyl, with resistance levels indicated by resistance indexes of 25.1 and 22.1, respectively.
  • DNA analysis showed specific mutations in the ACCase gene responsible for this resistance, with R2105 displaying three mutations and R1027 one mutation.
  • The research also revealed that both populations exhibited cross-resistance to other herbicides and that applying malathion reduced the metabolism rate of clodinafop-propargyl, marking this as the first report of multiple herbicide resistance in Chinese black-grass linked to genetic mutations and increased metabolism.

Background: Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has been successfully applied in treating lymphoma malignancies, but not in solid tumors. CD47 is highly expressed on tumor cells and its overexpression is believed to inhibit phagocytosis by macrophages and dendritic cells. Given the antitumor activity against preclinical model of CD47-blocking to induce the innate and adaptive immune system in the tumor microenvironment, here we developed a CAR-T cell secreting CD47 blocker signal regulatory protein α (SIRPα)-Fc fusion protein (Sirf CAR-T) to boost CAR-T cell therapeutic effect in solid tumor therapy.

Background: Although paternal exposure to cigarette smoke may contribute to obesity and metabolic syndrome in offspring, the underlying mechanisms remain uncertain.

Methods: In the present study, we analyzed the sperm DNA-methylation profiles in tobacco-smoking normozoospermic (SN) men, non-tobacco-smoking normozoospermic (N) men, and non-smoking oligoasthenozoospermic (OA) men. Using a mouse model, we also analyzed global methylation and differentially methylated regions (DMRs) of the DLK1 gene in paternal spermatozoa and the livers of progeny.

Information encryption with optical technologies has become increasingly important due to remarkable multidimensional capabilities of light fields. However, the optical encryption protocols proposed to date have been primarily based on the first-order field characteristics, which are strongly affected by interference effects and make the systems become quite unstable during light-matter interaction. Here, we introduce an alternative optical encryption protocol whereby the information is encoded into the second-order spatial coherence distribution of a structured random light beam via a generalized van Cittert-Zernike theorem.

In this study, a novel NixCo3-xO4 nanotube array hierarchical structure derived from zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) is grown on Ni foam (NixCo3-xO4 NAHS/Ni foam) using the template-assisted and self-assembly approach for a high-performance hybrid energy storage device in alkaline solution. The material characteristics of the resultant samples were characterized by XPS, XRD, ICP, SEM, TEM and BET. Due to the unique hollow structure with a large specific surface area and the exposure of large active sites originating from ZIFs, the optimal NixCo3-xO4 NAHS/Ni foam exhibits substantially enhanced electrochemical properties.
