Clinicopathological and imaging differences between pediatric and adult patients with anti-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase necrotizing myopathy.

We aimed to elucidate the clinicopathological and imaging differences between pediatric and adult patients with anti-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (anti-HMGCR) myopathy. A series of 111 patients with anti-HMGCR myopathy were divided into pediatric (33 patients, onset age < 18 years) and adult (78 patients, onset age ≥ 18 years) groups. Clinical, imaging, and pathological characteristics were compared between the groups.

Treatment of refractory immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy with efgartigimod.

Objective: We aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of efgartigimod in patients with refractory immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM).

Methods: This open-label pilot observational study included seven patients with refractory IMNM, all of whom received intravenous efgartigimod treatment. The clinical response was assessed after 4 weeks of efgartigimod treatment according to the 2016 American College of Rheumatology-European League Against Rheumatism response criteria for adult idiopathic inflammatory myopathy.

Identification of the central role of RNA polymerase mitochondrial for angiogenesis.

Mitochondria are central to endothelial cell activation and angiogenesis, with the RNA polymerase mitochondrial (POLRMT) serving as a key protein in regulating mitochondrial transcription and oxidative phosphorylation. In our study, we examined the impact of POLRMT on angiogenesis and found that its silencing or knockout (KO) in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and other endothelial cells resulted in robust anti-angiogenic effects, impeding cell proliferation, migration, and capillary tube formation. Depletion of POLRMT led to impaired mitochondrial function, characterized by mitochondrial depolarization, oxidative stress, lipid oxidation, DNA damage, and reduced ATP production, along with significant apoptosis activation.

The Effect of Continuous Theta Burst Stimulation over the Right Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex on Cognitive Function and Emotional Regulation in Patients with Cerebral Small Vessel Disease.

Objectives: Cognitive impairment in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a common cause of vascular dementia and is often accompanied by mental disorders. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of continuous theta burst stimulation (cTBS) over the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) on the cognitive function and Hamilton depression (HAMD) scores in patients with CSVD.

Methods: A total of 30 CSVD patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to either the sham or cTBS group.

Background: Good quality of care for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) depends on high-standard management and facility in the IBD center. Yet, there are no clear measures or criteria for evaluating pediatric IBD (PIBD) center in China. Objective: To determine the topical diagnosis and etiologies of spontaneous nystagmus (SN) with an upbeat component.

Methods: We retrospectively recruited 43 patients with SN with an upbeat component at a university hospital in China from 2020 to 2022. SN with an upbeat component was divided into pure upbeat nystagmus (UBN), SN with a predominant upbeat component, and SN with a non-predominant upbeat component.

Methods: A total of 128 patients with LAA cerebral infarction who met our specific inclusion criteria were selected, including 92 males and 36 females.

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare genetic disorder with an autosomal recessive inherited pattern. It is mainly characterized by deficiencies in lysosome-related organelles, such as melanosomes and platelet-dense granules, and leads to albinism, visual impairment, nystagmus, and bleeding diathesis. A small number of patients will present with granulomatous colitis or fatal pulmonary fibrosis.

Adult-onset neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease mimicking Parkinson's disease in a Chinese patient: a case report and literature reviews.

Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease is a rare hereditary neurodegenerative disease characterized by localized eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies in cells of the nervous system and internal organs. This disorder is frequently missed or misdiagnosed, as there is significant heterogeneity of its clinical presentation. Recently, genetic sequencing has revealed complex links between neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, potentially explaining the diversity of clinical manifestations.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease impacts the control of the international normalized ratio in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Background: It is unclear whether the therapeutic effect of warfarin in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and normal liver function differs between those with and without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). With this in mind, we aimed to evaluate the impact of NAFLD on the international normalized ratio (INR) control in warfarin-treated AF patients with normal liver function.

Methods: We enrolled 600 AF patients aged 28-94 (median 68) with normal liver function who were receiving daily warfarin therapy, 172 with NAFLD and 428 without.

Quantitative Evaluation of Percutaneous Local Drug Perfusion Against Refractory Infantile Hemangioma via 3-D Power Doppler Angiography.

To assess the practicality of 3-D power Doppler angiography (3-D-CPA) for local drug perfusion dosage guidance of refractory infantile hemangioma (IH) treatment, 47 cases (48 lesions) of refractory IH were selected for local bleomycin infusion (once a month). Ultrasound was performed before treatment and 1 and 2 months after the first treatment. The 3-D volume (V) change of infantile hemangiomas and the ratio of bleomycin injection to 3-D V before treatment were calculated, and statistical analysis was performed.

Pterostilbene Attenuates Experimental Atherosclerosis through Restoring Catalase-Mediated Redox Balance in Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells.

Atherosclerosis, the major risk of cardiovascular events, is a chronic vascular inflammatory disease. Pterostilbene is a naturally occurring dimethylated analogue of resveratrol and has recently been demonstrated to be beneficial against cardiovascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms of pterostilbene on atherosclerosis remain elusive.

Optical coherence tomography findings in chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia.

Background: Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is a mitochondrial encephalomyopathy caused by multiple mtDNA abnormalities. There is little information about the changes of ocular fundus with CPEO. The aim of this work was to measure and evaluate changes in the macular retinal thickness and optic nerve head in patients with CPEO using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography and to compare the findings with those of healthy individuals.

T2 Mapping and Fat Quantification of Thigh Muscles in Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Quantitative magnetic resonance image (MRI) in individual muscles may be useful for monitoring disease progression in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The purpose of this study was to measure T2 relaxation time of thigh muscles in children with DMD and healthy boys, and to correlate the T2 relaxation time of muscles with the fat fraction (FF) at quantitative magnetic resonance and results of clinical assessment. Thirty-two boys with DMD and 18 healthy boys were evaluated with T2 mapping and three-point Dixon MRI.

Muscle Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients with Various Clinical Subtypes of -Related Muscular Dystrophy.

Background: LMNA-related muscular dystrophy can manifest in a wide variety of disorders, including Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD), limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD), and LMNA-associated congenital muscular dystrophy (L-CMD). Muscle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become a useful tool in the diagnostic workup of patients with muscle dystrophies. This study aimed to investigate whether there is a consistent pattern of MRI changes in patients with LMNA mutations in various muscle subtypes.

Investigation of non-motor symptoms in first-degree relatives of patients with Parkinson's disease.

Objective: Non-motor symptoms (NMS) are important prodromal characteristics of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the incidence of NMS in first-degree relatives, such as siblings of PD patients, is still unknown.

Methods: A total of 98 PD patients of the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University were recruited; 210 siblings of these patients were included in a first-degree relatives (FDR) group and 250 healthy individuals were included in a control group.

There have no universally accepted criteria and have been established for classification of underactive bladder (UAB) at present. Thus, the study described the comprehensive clinical and urodynamic characteristics of UAB in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms.A total of 1726 patients (1259 men and 467 women; 6-88 years old) who were admitted to our center with a diagnosis of UAB were included in this retrospective study.
