Pilose antler peptide (PAP), prepared from the pilose antler of Temminck, is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) against various inflammatory disorders. TCM prescriptions containing pilose antler are often prescribed clinically to treat depression. However, the pharmacological mechanisms of how PAP, against inflammation, prevents and treats depression remain poorly understood.

Nonetheless, selecting an appropriate therapeutic agent to inhibit the development of hepatoma cells is still a challenge. Bufalin, a component of the traditional Chinese medicine Chansu, has been shown to inhibit the proliferation, invasion and metastasis of HCC through various signaling pathways.

To study the microscopic mechanism of composite material decomposition in an actual working environment and the inhibitory effect of BNNS doping on the decomposition process, molecular dynamics simulations were carried out at high temperatures, in intense electric fields, and with various reactive species in plasma based on the reactive force field (ReaxFF). The results showed that the decomposition was mainly caused by hydrogen capture and adsorption, which broke the benzene ring and C-N bond on the PI chains and led to serious damage to the PI structure.

However, there are few studies that have explored the association between air pollution exposure and respiratory diseases among young children (particularly aged 0-2 years) based on the entire population in a megalopolis.
Methods: Daily hospital admission records were obtained from 54 municipal hospitals in Wuhan city, China.
Aim: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification has been demonstrated to play an important part in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and immune response. This study aims to further investigate whether m6A modification plays an important role in the progression of HBV-related liver fibrosis through the regulation of immune cell infiltration.
Methods: In this study, 124 chronically HBV infected cases were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database.
In the present study, differences in metabolic pathways between patients with and without cancer-related fatigue (CRF) were examined to identify metabolic serum biomarkers of CRF. In this preliminary study, metabolic profiling was applied to analyze the serum samples from 14 patients with CRF and 11 non-CRF individuals (non-fatigue cancer survivors) by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. Orthogonal partial least-squares discriminant analysis was adopted to evaluate the differences between the CRF and non-CRF groups.

In diabetic patients, hyperactivated hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis leads to abnormal increase of glucocorticoids (GCs), which causes the damage of hippocampal neurons and cognitive impairment. In this study we investigated the cognition-improving effects of a non-steroidal glucocorticoid receptor (GR) antagonist 5-chloro-N-[4-chloro-3-(trifluoromethyl) phenyl]thiophene-2-sulfonamide (FX5) in diabetic mice.

Results: In this study, using the cellulase-producing filamentous fungus Trichoderma reesei as a model system, we designed a semi-rational strategy by arbitrarily dividing the regulation of cellulase production into three main stages-transcription, secretion, and cell metabolism. Selected regulatory or functional genes that had been experimentally verified or predicted to enhance cellulase production were overexpressed using strong inducible or constitutive promoters, while those that would inhibit cellulase production were repressed via RNAi-mediated gene silencing.
Extensive cross-allergic reactivity exists among food-borne plants. As most allergens are glycoproteins, protein sensitization has been extensively studied. However, little attention has been given to the glycan component of glycoproteins.

However, it remains unknown whether there are genes functionally complementary to to rescue null mutant. In the present paper, we screen and characterize three revertants of null mutant and reveal a T1121G point mutation in the mitochondrial gene coding sequence, which leads to Val374Gly mutation in Cox1, the suppressor in the revertants.

However, limited research has examined the effects of combining progressive aerobic exercise and HIIT interventions in sedentary adults with overweight and obesity, and differences in its effects between men and women remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined progressive aerobic exercise and HIIT (CAEH) on fat oxidation and fat reduction in sedentary Chinese adults and compare sex differences in sedentary adults after seven weeks.

Methods: Four cases treated in our institution and 59 cases reported previously in the literature from the PubMed biomedical database (2000-2020) were reviewed and analyzed.
Results: Four cases with PB presented with abdominal pain and palpable abdominal masses, with the tumor size ranging from 5.
In this paper, we mainly adopted 337 patients who had undergone the surgery on lymph node metastasis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) as the sample population. In order to provide clinical reference for the intelligent decision-making in treatment plan and improvement of prognosis, we utilized ultrasound features and imaging features to construct five early diagnosis models for patients based on the ultrasound features, imaging features, and combined features. The model integrated with broad learning system (BLS) showed the best performance, with the area under the curve (AUC) of 0.

Glucocorticoid receptor (GR) dysfunction is a main reason for neuronal impairment in brain of diabetic patients. Here, we determined that ipriflavone (IP) a clinical anti-osteoporosis drug functioned as a non-steroidal GR antagonist and efficiently ameliorated learning and memory dysfunction in both type 1 and 2 diabetic mice.

Otitis media (OM) is a pervasive disease that involves hearing loss and severe complications. In our previous study, we successfully established a mouse model of human OM using (TLR2) mice with middle ear (ME) inoculation of streptococcal peptidoglycan-polysaccharide (PGPS). In this study, we found that hearing loss and OM infections in OM mice were significantly alleviated after treatment with rapamycin (RPM), a widely used mechanistic target of RPM complex 1 (mTORC1) inhibitor and autophagy inducer.

This study aimed to assess the potential prognostic roles of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in CRC patients.
Methods: Between 2014 and 2017, 118 CRC patients newly diagnosed at the Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University were retrospectively analyzed, including 72 (61%) patients that underwent radical resection (resectable CRC) and 46 (39%) advanced patients with metastatic CRC (mCRC).
Some derivatives of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as chlorinated and brominated PAHs (Cl/BrPAHs), nitrated and oxygenated PAHs (N/OPAHs) have attracted significant concern due to their high toxicity. Knowledge of the profiles, formation mechanisms, and potential sources of these toxic chemicals near the industrial complexes is essential for their pollution control and management. In this study, we monitored Cl/BrPAHs, N/OPAHs, and PAHs at 24 sampling sites near a heavily industrialized area (steel, chemical, and rubber plants) using passive air samplers during the heating period (7 December 2019 to 15 April 2020) and the non-heating period (2 June 2020 to 4 October 2020).

Background: (group-specific component globulin) encoding VDBP (Vitamin D binding protein) polymorphisms have been associated with susceptibility to some diseases such as diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and polycystic ovary syndrome, but the evidence for metabolic syndrome (MetS) in the Chinese rural population is inconclusive. Therefore, we investigated the relationship between variants (rs7041, rs4588, rs2282679, and rs705117) and MetS risk as well as VDBP levels in the Chinese rural population.
Patients And Methods: The participants (range of age: 20-90 years) of this case-control study were recruited from the northern Chinese Han rural population.
