Copper is a vital cofactor in various enzymes, plays a pivotal role in maintaining cell homeostasis. When copper metabolism is disordered and mitochondrial dysfunction is impaired, programmed cell death such as apoptosis, paraptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, cuproptosis, autophagy and necroptosis can be induced. In this review, we focus on the metabolic mechanisms of copper.

Cisplatin is a widely used anticancer drug, but its accumulation in renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) can cause acute kidney injury. Phosphoseryl-tRNA kinase (PSTK) is an intermediate product produced under oxidative stress conditions. This study aimed to elucidate whether PSTK could protect TECs and its possible mechanisms.

Background: The potential nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine A (CsA) has been a problem for treating graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). However, the relationship between CsA blood concentration and acute kidney injury (AKI) in pediatric patients after allo-HSCT remains unclear.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study including pediatric patients who received allo-HSCT in West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University from 2000 to 2022 and collected their clinical data.

Amphotericin B (AmB) has been a cornerstone in the treatment of invasive fungal infections for over 6 decades. Compared with conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate (AmB-DOC), liposomal amphotericin B has comparable efficacy but less nephrotoxicity. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the reason why liposomal amphotericin B has similar therapeutic effects but lower toxicity and the differences of distribution in humans between liposomal amphotericin B and AmB-DOC.

Aim: This study aimed to gain deeper insights into the hepatotoxicity mechanisms of valproic acid (VPA), as well as to identify potential risk markers for VPA-induced hepatotoxicity.

Methods: Twenty-two children with epilepsy treated with VPA monotherapy were divided into a normal liver function (NLF) group, a mild abnormal liver function (ANLF1) group, and a serious abnormal liver function (ANLF2) group based on their liver function indicator levels. The full quantitative targeted metabolomics technique was used to systematically investigate how the differential endogenous metabolic components change with the development of liver injury.

Background: Some research indicates that unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs) in the diet could enhance reproductive outcomes in infertile women. However, other research holds different views, possibly due to differences in the conversion rates of UFAs from various foods and bioavailability in the body. Therefore, this research examined the link between serum UFAs and infertility issues.

Article Synopsis
  • * It found that a higher SII score (≥330 × 109/L) significantly increased the risk of high-frequency hearing loss (HFHL) and overall hearing loss (HL) but showed no significant association with speech-frequency hearing loss (SFHL).
  • * The findings were consistent across different age groups and confirmed upon further analysis, indicating that while systemic inflammation is linked to certain types of hearing loss, it may not affect speech-frequency hearing loss.

In a vertical shaft impact crusher, the particle crushing process is extraordinarily complex, and the particle shape significantly influences the size distribution of the crushed product. To quantify the crushing behavior of particles more accurately and thus reveal the crushing mechanism of the crusher, an analytical approach is suggested for characterizing the crushing distribution of particles subjected to rotational impact. First, according to the working principle of vertical shaft impact crusher, a rotary impact tester was designed, and the cumulative damage model of particles under repetitive impact was established based on the theory of fracture mechanics, based on which the simulation model of single-particle rotary impact tester was constructed.

  • Valproic acid (VPA) is effective for treating seizures but can cause liver damage, limiting its use due to microvesicular hepatic steatosis.
  • Researchers conducted a study on mice to understand the mechanisms behind VPA-induced liver injury, discovering it involves lysosomal dysfunction and impaired autophagy.
  • Metformin showed potential benefits by binding to and inhibiting a specific enzyme (PLA2G4A), reducing liver damage and lipid accumulation from VPA treatment.

The gut microbiota has been reported to be perturbed by chemotherapeutic agents and to modulate side effects. However, the critical role of β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in the regulation of the gut microbiota and the pathogenesis of chemotherapeutic agents related nephrotoxicity remains unknown. We conducted a comparative analysis of the composition and function of gut microbiota in healthy, cisplatin-challenged, BHB-treated, and high-fat diet-treated mice using 16 S rDNA gene sequencing.

Prophylactic antibacterial drugs are used for patients with liver cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and independent studies have concluded that they can decrease the rate of infection, mortality, and rebleeding in these diseases. However, no comprehensive assessment of this effect has been reported in recent years and available data pertaining to the prognostic implications of diverse categories of antibiotic prophylaxis in individuals afflicted with cirrhosis are notably limited. The objective of this article is to assess the clinical effectiveness of prophylactic antibacterial drugs for patients with liver cirrhosis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Although annexin A1 (ANXA1), a 37 kDa phospholipid‑binding anti‑inflammatory protein expressed in various tissues and cell types, has been investigated extensively for its regulatory role in cancer biology, studies have mainly focused on its intracellular role. However, cancer cells and stromal cells expressing ANXA1 have the ability to transmit signals within the tumor microenvironment (TME) through autocrine, juxtacrine, or paracrine signaling. This bidirectional crosstalk between cancer cells and their environment is also crucial for cancer progression, contributing to uncontrolled tumor proliferation, invasion, metastasis and resistance to therapy.

Particles in the vertical shaft impact crusher absorb and dissipate collision energy in the impact breakage. The distribution of the collision energy determines the breakage rate of materials and breakage energy consumption of the entire system. In this paper, the gas-solid coupling method is used to explore the regional distribution of collision energy, collision frequency, and collision energy spectrum of the material particle groups.
