Objective: This study aims to investigate determinants impacting the surgical management of splenic trauma in paediatric patients by scrutinizing age distribution, etiological factors and concomitant injuries. The analysis seeks to establish a foundation for delineating optimal operative timing.

Methods: A cohort of 262 paediatric cases presenting with splenic trauma at our institution from January 2011 to December 2021 underwent categorization into either the conservative or operative group.

In multiple types of cancer, decreased tumour cell apoptosis during chemotherapy is indicative of decreased chemosensitivity. Forkhead box K2 (FOXK2), which is essential for cell fate, regulates cancer cell apoptosis through several post-translational modifications. However, FOXK2 acetylation has not been extensively studied.

Background: Congenital biliary atresia is a type of obstruction of the bile ducts inside and outside the liver, which can lead to cholestatic liver cirrhosis and eventually liver failure. The preduodenal portal vein (PD-PV) is a rare developmental malformation of the PV. The PV courses in front of the duodenum.

Background: Liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) play key roles in the metastasis, recurrence, and chemotherapeutic resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Our previous research showed that the POSTN gene is closely related to the malignant progression and poor prognosis of HCC. This study aimed to elucidate the role of POSTN in generating LCSCs and maintaining their stemness as well as the underlying mechanisms.

The competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network is crucial for the development and progression of tumors, including non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, what type of ceRNA network regulates NSCLC has not been clarified. The present study aimed to elucidate the long non‑coding RNA (lncRNA)/microRNA (miRNA)/mRNA ceRNA network in NSCLC, particularly for the significance of lncRNAs in NSCLC.

Article Synopsis
  • Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) is linked to an increased risk of atypical cell growth and cancer in the bile duct or gallbladder, but gene expression changes in children with PBM were previously unexplored.
  • A study analyzed blood samples from 10 kids with PBM and 15 controls, revealing 876 differentially expressed genes, with 530 genes up-regulated and 346 down-regulated.
  • Notably, the genes MYBPC1 and FUT1 showed significant up-regulation and could serve as potential biomarkers for predicting PBM, with high predictive accuracy according to receiver operator characteristic curve analysis.

Understanding the occurrence, development, and treatment of liver diseases is the main goal of hepatopathology research. Liver diseases are not only diverse but also highly heterogeneous among individuals. At present, research on liver diseases is conducted mainly through cell culture, animal models, pathological specimens, .

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common complication after radical surgery of esophageal cancer. The aim of this study was to explore AF risk factors after radical surgery of esophageal carcinoma.

Method: The data of 335 patients with esophageal cancer who were admitted in our hospital from January 2014 to August 2016 for the first time were retrospectively analyzed.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate factors affecting the operating time for complete cyst excision and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy in paediatric cases of congenital choledochal malformation (CCM).

Design: A 3-year retrospective study was undertaken between January 2013 and December 2015 in four centres in China.

Setting: This involved a retrospective chart review of paediatric patients with CCM in four large hospitals in Southeast China.

Article Synopsis
  • Gefitinib, a drug used to treat non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), was tested for its effectiveness in combination with miR-7.
  • miR-7 enhanced gefitinib's cancer-fighting ability by lowering the drug's effective concentration (IC50) and inhibiting cancer cell growth.
  • The study showed that this combination led to increased cell death and halted cell cycle progression, along with reduced activity of key cancer-associated proteins, indicating that miR-7 could be a promising new target for NSCLC treatment.

In the present study, we found that ZBTB20, a member of the POK (POZ and Krüppel) family of transcriptional repressors, was significantly up-regulated in lung cancer tissues, compared with adjacent normal tissues. Our in vitro studies further found that ZBTB20 overexpression promoted, while its inhibition using small interfering RNA suppressed cell proliferation. Consistently, key regulators in cell-cycle progression, such as Cyclin D1, Cyclin E, P21 and P27, were also regulated by ZBTB20.

Veratric acid, a simple benzoic acid derived from plants and fruits, has been reported to exhibit antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and other important therapeutic activities. The aim of this study was to detect the effects of veratric acid on LPS-induced acute lung injury and to investigate the effects of veratric acid on NF-κB signaling pathway. Male BALB/c mice were pretreated with dexamethasone or veratric acid 1h before intranasal instillation of LPS.

CCDC6 is rearranged in approximately 20% of papillary thyroid carcinomas and some lung cancers participating in the formation of PTC1/ret proto-oncogene oncogene. CCDC6 is involved in the cellular response to DNA damage and is stabilized by ATM-mediated phosphorylation at Thr434. However, the E3 ligase that targets CCDC6 for destruction is unknown.

Objective: To study the usability of pulmonary tissue flap in the reconstruction of the thoracic trachea.

Methods: Over half perimeter anterior and posterior wall and 6 to 8 tracheal cartilagious rings of dog trachea were resected. The nickel-titanium alloy mesh stent was placed inside the lumen for repair of the defect of the tracheal wall by nearby pulmonary tissue flap with the vascularized segment.
