Aberration layers (AL) often present significant energy transmission barriers in microwave engineering, electromagnetic waves, and medical ultrasound. However, achieving broadband ultrasonic focusing through aberration layers like the human skull using conventional materials such as metals and elastomers has proven challenging. In this study, we introduce an inverse phase encoding method employing tunable soft metalens to penetrate heterogeneous aberration layers.

Article Synopsis
  • WRKY transcription factors, including BcWRKY53, play a crucial role in plant responses to cold stress and chlorophyll synthesis, but their mechanisms are not thoroughly understood.
  • BcWRKY53 was identified as a key regulator of the chlorophyll synthesis genes BcCHLH and BcGUN4, and its expression increases under cold treatment, positively affecting chlorophyll content and cold tolerance in Arabidopsis.
  • The study highlights the self-regulatory mechanism of BcWRKY53 and its interaction with BcHDA9, emphasizing their roles in improving cold tolerance and providing insights for non-heading Chinese cabbage improvements.

High temperature can significantly affect the quality and yield of plants. However, there has been limited research investigating the thermotolerance of non-heading Chinese cabbage (NHCC). This study, identified BcWRKY23 through transcriptome analysis in NHCC with varying levels of thermotolerance.

The swim bladder in some teleost fish functions to transfer the sound energy of acoustic stimuli to the inner ears. This study uses the auditory evoked potential tests, micro-computed tomography scanning, reconstruction, and numerical modeling to assess the contribution of the swim bladder to hearing in crucian carp (Carassius carassius). The auditory evoked potential results show that, at the tested frequency range, the audiogram of fish with an intact swim bladder linearly increases, ranging from 100 to 600 Hz.

Based on the established efficient regeneration system for watercress in our laboratory, we optimized the processes of pretreatment, co-culture, and differentiation culture. Through GFP fluorescence and PCR identification, we successfully obtained transgenic watercress with the gene, which allowed us to investigate the distribution details of auxin in the growth process of watercress. Our findings provide an effective method for gene function research and lay the foundation for innovative utilization of germplasm resources of watercress.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed the watercress transcriptome and confirmed that auxin significantly influences root development when under drought stress.
  • * Auxin synthesis in watercress roots relies on specific amino acid pathways, and its increased levels support adaptations like root aerenchyma formation, impacting how roots develop and branch out.

WRKY transcription factors (TFs) participate in plant defense mechanisms against biological and abiotic stresses. However, their regulatory role in heat resistance is still unclear in non-heading Chinese cabbage. Here, we identified the WRKY-IIe gene (), which is activated under high temperatures and plays an active role in regulating thermal stability, through transcriptome analysis.

The microbial treatment of soil has great potential to reduce chromium pollution. Here, an indigenous chromium-resistant strain (A1) was isolated and screened from heavily chromium-contaminated red soil in Yunnan Province, China using a traditional isolation method and a selective culture experiment. The molecular identification of A1 was achieved using 18S rRNA sequencing.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is considered a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by significant social, communication, and behavioral impairments. The gut microbiota is increasingly considered a promising therapeutic target in ASD. Farnesoid X receptor (FXR) has recently been shown to modulate the gut microbiota.

Odontocetes have evolved special acoustic structures in the forehead to modulate echolocation and communication signals into directional beams to facilitate feeding and social behaviors. Whistle directivity was addressed for the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) by developing numerical models in the current paper. Directivity was first examined at the fundamental frequency 5 kHz, and simulations were then extended to the harmonics of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 kHz.

Cold stress is a key factor limiting the yield and quality of non-heading Chinese cabbage. The hydrophilic protective protein LEA plays an important role in plant abiotic stress. In this study, 72 BcLEAs were identified from non-heading Chinese cabbage and divided into 9 subfamilies by phylogenetic analysis.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is defined as a complex heterogeneous disorder and characterized by stereotyped behavior and deficits in communication and social interactions. The emerging microbial knowledge has pointed to a potential link between gut microbiota dysbiosis and ASD. Evidence from animal and human studies showed that shifts in composition and activity of the gut microbiota may causally contribute to the etiopathogenesis of core symptoms in the ASD individuals with gastrointestinal tract disturbances and act on microbiota-gut-brain.
