Typically occurring after trauma or neurosurgery treatments, dura mater defect and the ensuing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage could lead to a number of serious complications and even patient's death. Although numerous natural and synthetic dura mater substitutes have been reported, none of them have been able to fulfill the essential properties, such as anti-adhesion, leakage blockage, and pro-dura rebuilding. In this study, we devised and prepared a series of robust and biodegradable hydroxyapatite/poly(lactide--ε-caprolactone) (HA/PLCL) membranes for dura repair an electrospinning technique.

A combination of biomimetic scaffolds with hydroxyapatite has gained great popularity in promoting bone regeneration. Therefore, we designed an injectable, photocurable and in-situ curing hydrogel by methacrylic anhydride -modified carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-MA) loading with spherical hydroxyapatite (HA) to highly simulate the natural bony matrix and match any shape of damaged tissue.

However, therapeutic effects and mechanisms of BMSCs transplantation for radiation-induced brain injury (RIBI) have not been fully disclosed. In this article, we explored the functions of BMSCs transplantation on RIBI and investigated the protective effects of BMSCS on hippocampal neurons in RIBI as well as the related molecular mechanisms.

Many solid tumors are characterized by dysregulated HA metabolism, resulting in increased HA levels in cancer tissues. HA interacts with several cell surface receptors, such as cluster of differentiation 44 and receptor for hyaluronan-mediated motility, thus co-regulating important signaling pathways in cancer development and progression.

These plaques restrict blood flow and lead to complications such as heart attack or stroke. The development of atherosclerosis is influenced by a variety of factors, including age, genetics, lifestyle, and underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of BMSCs treatment on changes in hippocampal neural function in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats with RIBI, and to evaluate the therapeutic effect of BMSCs by manganese-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MEMRI). First, we assessed cognitive function after RIBI treatment with BMSCs using the Morris water maze.

Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) possess robust immunoregulatory functions and are promising therapeutics for inflammatory disorders. This capacity is not innate but is activated or 'licensed' by inflammatory cytokines. The licensing mechanism remains unclear.

Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying the immunoregulatory property of MuSCs remain largely uncharacterized. Here, we showed that interleukin-4-induced-1 (IL4I1), an essential enzyme that catalyzes indole metabolism in humans, was highly expressed in human MuSCs exposed to IFN-γ and TNF-α.

NAD metabolism can regulate functionality attributes of innate and adaptive immune cells and contribute to inflammatory responses. Thus, the manipulation of NAD bioavailability can reshape the courses of immunological diseases.

Current bioceramic particle or deproteinized bovine bone (DBB) products are not able to ideally meet clinical requirements, such as insufficient operability and slow degradation rates. Herein, a strong-interacted bone graft was designed and synthesized by modifying hydroxyapatite (HA) with a lactide-caprolactone copolymer (PLCL) to improve component homogeneity and mechanical properties.

In this study, an injectable hydroxyapatite/type I collagen (HAp/Col Ⅰ) paste was developed to construct a suitable local microenvironment to accelerate the healing of bone-tendon interface. Physicochemical characterization demonstrated that the HAp/Col Ⅰ paste was injectable, uniform and stable.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the main complications of diabetes mellitus (DM), which leads to the long-term loss of kidney functions. Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) can alleviate DN by interacting with microRNAs (miRNAs). In this work, we aimed to explore the effects of the MALAT1/miR-200c/NRF2 regulatory axis on the pyroptosis and oxidative stress (Oxidative stress, OS) of renal podocytes in high glucose (HG) environment and whether the lipid-lowering drug atorvastatin (AT) can relieve renal OS through this approach.

Increasing evidence demonstrated that tissue stem cells, especially mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), can exert therapeutic effects on various degenerative and inflammatory disorders based on their immunoregulatory properties. Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) treated with interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were reported to possess anti-inflammatory functions by producing TNF-stimulated gene 6 (TSG-6).

Macrophages can adopt different immune phenotypes in response to various cues and exhibit anti- or pro-inflammatory properties relying on catabolic pathways associated with oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) or glycolysis. Spermidine, a natural polyamine, has been reported to regulate inflammation through inducing anti-inflammatory (M2) macrophages.
