Aim: Bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) possess immunomodulatory properties in the brain. However, it remains unclear whether intravenously transplanted BM-MSCs have a neuromodulator effect on the activation of microglias after ischemic stroke. This study aimed to investigate the immunomodulatory effect of BM-MSCs on the regulation of brain microglial inactivation during the acute phase of stroke.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the cross-sectional associations among sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) consumption, its substitution with beverage alternatives, and obesity outcomes in an Australian population.

Methods: We used data from 9341 adults ages ≥19 y from the 2011-2012 Australian National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey. Multivariate linear regression with adjustment for covariates was used to examine the associations between SSB consumption and body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC).

Purpose: Arsenic trioxide decreases proliferation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells, but its precise mechanism of action is unknown.

Experimental Design: We studied the effect of arsenic trioxide on patient samples and the AML cell line HEL, which, like leukemic blasts from 50% of AML cases, has constitutively activated signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins.

Results: Arsenic trioxide induced mitotic arrest starting at 24 hours and significant cell death at 48 hours.
