The effect of iron supplementation in preterm infants at different gestational ages.

Background: Iron deficiency (ID) is the most prevalent nutritional deficiency disease in preterm infants, significantly affecting their growth and development. For preterm infants to flourish physically and neurologically, timely iron supplementation is essential. The main goals of this study were to determine whether the present iron supplementation regimen results in iron overload in late preterm infants and whether it can meet the growth requirements of early preterm infants for catch-up.

Effectiveness of a large-scale health and nutritional education program on anemia in children younger than 5 years in Shifang, a heavily damaged area of Wenchuan earthquake.

This study aimed to explore an ideal way to prevent anemia among children younger than 5 years after disasters especially when health care facilities are not enough. A preliminary survey was carried out involving 13 065 children younger than 5 years. Pretested questionnaires were used for data collection and hemoglobin levels were measured.

[Effect of simvastatin on rat pulmonary hypertension induced by high pulmonary blood flow and injected monocrotaline].

Objective: To explore the therapeutic effect of simvastatin on the pulmonary hypertension induced by injected monocrotaline combining with high pulmonary blood flow of rats.

Methods: Forty male SD rats were randomly divided into the placebo group, simvastatin 1 mg/(kg x d) group, simvastatin 2 mg/(kg x d) group and control group. The arterial-venous shunt rats were injected with monocrotaline at day 7 and developing the pulmonary hypertension after shunting operation.
