Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is one of the most rigorously regulated contaminants frequently detected in surface and groundwater. Magnetic iron sulfides are naturally abundant, environmentally friendly materials ideal for the removal of Cr(VI) from contaminated water, but the high-spin states of Fe(III) ions limits their adsorption affinity. Herein, we develop a heteroatom-doping approach to boost the Cr(VI) removal efficacy of greigite.

This paper derives and verifies the ranging precision of time-of-flight (ToF) light detection and ranging (LiDAR) in atmospheric turbulence channels. Double-passage atmospheric turbulence channels satisfying the Gamma-Gamma distribution are simulated in the laboratory using a random phase screen, and the derived Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) for LiDAR ranging in Gamma-Gamma channels are verified by the Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and experiment. The CRLBs demonstrate that the precision values at Rytov variances of 0.

We have developed a strategy to synthesize high-quality ultralight (<10 mg/cm) syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) aerogels. The ultralight sPS aerogels with the same shape as gels were prepared via direct freeze-drying of -xylene-based sPS gels without cumbersome solvent exchange steps. Due to the high melting point of -xylene (13 °C), it can be solidified during the freeze-drying process, and no solvent exchanges were required to suppress the collapse during the formation of sPS aerogels, unlike in typical sPS aerogel preparation.

Traditional underwater acoustic source localization methods based on time differences of arrival (TDOA) in the presence of refraction first estimate the source depth and range to each hydrophone and then estimate the horizontal location of the source. The accuracy of these methods is compromised by errors in range estimation. To address this, we propose a three-dimensional source localization method that utilizes TDOA measurements between direct and surface-reflected arrivals at N(N ≥3) hydrophones, taking into account refraction effects.

By incorporating methyl groups to introduce steric hindrance and utilizing hydroxyl groups to establish intramolecular hydrogen bonds, we synthesized a covalent organic framework (COF) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior and near-infrared (NIR) luminescence ( = 657 nm). The integration of the innovative COF with LED chips enabled the fabrication of high-quality red and white organic phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This work provides a new way to explore COFs to construct low-cost, high-performance, and eco-friendly LED devices.

As the most common postoperative complication, intestinal adhesions can cause intestinal obstruction, female infertility, and even endanger life. The currently developed materials for preventing intestinal adhesions mainly focus on physical barriers and reducing inflammatory reactions, while neglecting the importance of effectively promoting rapid repair of the peritoneum. We previously found that platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) can prevent postoperative intestinal adhesions.

Background: Auricular deformities are common in newborns and require early diagnosis and timely intervention. Several factors highlight the necessity of a machine learning-based diagnostic solution: the high prevalence of these conditions, the narrow time window for effective non-surgical treatment, limited medical resources, and the importance of both physical and mental well-being. This study presents a novel artificial intelligence (AI) model to identify and classify common sub-types of auricle deformities, using photos taken with mobile devices.

E3 ubiquitin ligases are major components of the ubiquitination cascade and contribute to the stomatal responses to pathogen and drought stress in plants. The F-box SKP1-Interacting Partners (AtSKIPs) proteins are members of the SCF E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes; however, whether they have any involvement in stomatal movement remains unclear. Here, based on tissue expression profiling, we found that the AtSKIP5 protein was highly expressed in guard cells.

An efficient scheme for controlling the spatial Raman gain is proposed in a cold atomic ensemble with a four-level N-typed configuration. The cold atoms are driven by the Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) vortex beams. Considering the control and driving fields are vortex beams and using experimentally achievable parameters, we identify the condition under which the topological charges (TCs) allows us to manipulate the radial distribution of the Raman gain spectra.

Effectively recognizing different regions of interest with attention mechanisms plays an important role in remote sensing image captioning task. However, these attention-driven models implicitly hypothesize that the focused region information is correct, which is too restrictive. Furthermore, the visual feature extractors will fail when facing weak correlation between objects.
