Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening disease associated with a high mortality rate, emphasizing the need for the exploration of novel models to predict the prognosis of this patient population. This study compared the performance of traditional logistic regression and machine learning models in predicting adult sepsis mortality.
Objective: To develop an optimum model for predicting the mortality of adult sepsis patients based on comparing traditional logistic regression and machine learning methodology.
Background: Although the method of autocalibration or calibration based on catheter diameters was proposed for fluoroscopic measurement during percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), it may be imprecise and lead to mismeasurement. We sought to investigate whether the utilization of the surface steel ball calibration (SSBC) method under fluoroscopy could facilitate the fluoroscopic measurement of the post-implanted WATCHMAN device (Boston Scientific Corporation, Natick, MA, USA) in LAAO.
Methods: This retrospective study included 97 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous LAAO with the WATCHMAN device.
Objective: This prospective study aimed to establish the typical viscosity range of the thyroid gland in healthy individuals using a new method called the Sound Touch Viscosity (STVi) technique with a linear array transducer.
Methods: Seventy-eight healthy volunteers were enrolled between March, 2023 and April, 2023. Thyroid viscosity was measured using the Resona R9 ultrasound system equipped with a linear array transducer (L15-3WU).
Background: Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis (ARCI) is a group of genetic skin disorders characterized by abnormal keratinization, leading to significant health issues and reduced quality of life. ARCI encompasses harlequin ichthyosis (HI), congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (CIE), and lamellar ichthyosis (LI). While all ARCI genes are linked to LI and CIE, HI is specifically associated with severe mutations in the gene.

A key issue is the foreign-body response (FBR) triggered by the implants, which impairs the integration between grafts and native vessels. In this study, we applied an interfacial infiltration strategy to create a stable, hydrophilic, and passivated hydrogel coating on SDVGs.

This investigation aims to compare the diagnostic accuracy and safety between US- and CT-guided PNB for SPLs.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed SPL patients who underwent CT- or US-guided PNB in our hospital between January 2022 to January 2023.
Aims: To develop and validate an individualized nomogram for differentiating the histologic subtypes (adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) of subpleural non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) based on ultrasound parameters and clinical data.
Methods: This study was conducted retrospectively between March 2018 and December 2019. Patients were randomly assigned to a development cohort (DC, n=179) and a validation cohort (VC, n=77).
Background: Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic, severe mental illness with a significant socio-economic burden. The early recognition of BD requires reliable and valid instruments.
Objective: We evaluated the psychometric attributes of the Bipolar Prodrome Symptom Interview and Scale-Full Prospective (BPSS-FP)-Chinese version.
Cartilage regeneration relies on adequate and continuous bioenergy supply to facilitate cellular differentiation and extracellular matrix synthesis. Chondrocytes frequently undergo energy stress under pathological conditions, characterized by disrupted cellular metabolism and reduced adenosine triphosphate (ATP) levels. However, there has limited progress in modulating energy metabolism for cartilage regeneration thus far.

Herein, we designed engineered apoptotic bodies derived from T cells to have the capacity of inflammation regulation and cartilage affinity. The engineered apoptotic bodies as a natural anti-inflammation factor were encapsulated into lubricating hydrogel microspheres to achieve an injectable microsphere complex for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA).

The repair healing of chronic diabetic wounding is tremendously hindered due to persistent inflammatory reaction. To address the aforementioned issues, here, a dual-functional hydrogel is designed, consisting of N1-(4-boronobenzyl)-N3-(4-boronophenyl)-N1, N1, N3, N3-tetramethylpropane-1, 3-diaminium (TSPBA) modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and methacrylamide carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCSMA) can not only electrostatically adsorb proinflammatory cytokines of IL1-β and TNF-α, but can also chemically scavenge the excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) in situ.

MTHFR gene polymorphism affects enzyme activity. MTHFR gene polymorphism is closely related to many human diseases, such as cardiocerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, neural tube defects (NTDs), tumors, and so on.

The effective and low-cost removal of ciprofloxacin (CIP) from wastewater has become an important research focus. In this study, fly ash (FA) was used as the raw material, and modified fly ash (MFA) was prepared by varying microwave power, alkali concentration, and immersion time to investigate its adsorption characteristics for CIP.

Herein, we create the SDVG with the tailored endothelialization by applying the engineered endothelial cell vesicles to camouflaging vascular grafts for the enhancement of vascular remodeling. The engineered endothelial cell vesicles were modified with azide groups (ECVs-N) through metabolic glycoengineering to precisely link the vascular graft made of PCL-DBCO via click chemistry, and thus fabricating ECVG (ECVs-N modified SDVG), which assists inhibition of platelet adhesion and activation, promotion of ECs adhesion and enhancement of anti-inflammation.

The data about the relationship between inflammatory indices and left atrial appendage thrombus (LAAT) or dense spontaneous echo contrast (SEC) are limited.
Aim: To explore the value of inflammatory indices for predicting the presence of LAAT or dense SEC in nonvalvular AF patients.
Background: There are billions of bacteria in the intestine, most of which are harmless and play important roles in humans. Although only a very small number of bacteria can cause diseases, once the pathogenic bacteria are ingested into the body and multiply in large quantities, it can lead to inflammatory diseases in the intestines and even other organs. Although polymerase chain reaction can specifically detect bacterial nucleic acid.

Background: Previous research has indicated the potential involvement of the microbiota in smoking-related processes. The present study seeks to examine the relationship between dietary live microbes, as well as probiotic or prebiotic consumption, and serum cotinine levels.
Methods: This study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2018.
Trace metals play a vital role in a variety of biological processes, but excessive amounts can be toxic and are receiving increasing attention. Trace metals in the environment are released from natural sources, such as rock weathering, volcanic eruptions, and other human activities, such as industrial emissions, mineral extraction, and vehicle exhaust. Lifestyle, dietary habits and environmental quality are the main sources of human exposure to trace metals, which play an important role in inducing human reproductive infertility.
