Article Synopsis
  • LncRNAs play an important role in bladder cancer (BLCA), with this study focusing on how ferroptosis-related lncRNAs (DEFRlncRNAs) impact tumor growth and patient outcomes.
  • Researchers identified an 18-lncRNA signature that predicts patient prognosis and showed that altering the expression of specific lncRNAs like AL355353.2 and AL136084.3 affects cancer cell death in lab experiments.
  • The study found that AL136084.3 interacts with the protein NUPR1, suggesting a potential link in regulating cancer progression and providing insight into possible therapeutic targets.

The ratio of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) to HDL-C (NHHR) is a novel lipid parameter used to assess the risk of cardiovascular disease. Previous studies have demonstrated an association between the NHHR and risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Owing to the lack of research exploring this relationship in specific populations, this study aimed to determine the potential link between the NHHR and risk of NAFLD among American adults in the United States.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the effect of telephone and short-message follow-ups on compliance and efficacy in asthmatic children treated with inhaled corticosteroids.

Methods: A total of 120 children with moderate bronchial asthma who visited the Asthma Outpatient Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University were enrolled in the study. They were divided randomly into 3 groups based on the type of follow-up given: a combined telephone and short-message service (Tel + SMS) group, a SMS group, and a control group.

Few studies were performed on the impact of exposure to gaseous pollutants on the risk of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). We conducted this study to analyze the association between short-term exposure to gaseous pollutants and the risk of hospitalizations for KOA. A total of 2952 KOA hospitalizations derived from two hospitals in Hefei, and the relationship between gaseous pollutants and KOA hospitalizations was analyzed by a distributed lag non-linear model combined with a generalized linear model.

Introduction: The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of endovenous microwave ablation (EMA) and high ligation and strippingn (HLS) of the great saphenous vein (GSV) in the treatment of varicose veins.

Methods: We included 182 patients in each EMA and HLS groups. Follow-up outcomes included AVVQ, VCSS, chronic venous insufficiency questionnaire-14 (CIVIQ14) score, clinical recurrence rate of varicose vein treatment, and patient satisfaction during the 1-year follow-up period.

Article Synopsis
  • Severe proximal humerus comminuted fractures often result in complications due to medial support loss, making it difficult to establish an effective treatment; this study evaluates the use of fibular autografts combined with locking plates as a potential solution.
  • The research compares two patient groups: one receiving fibular autografts with locking plates and the other treated with just locking plates, looking at factors such as surgery time, pain levels, and recovery outcomes.
  • Results indicated that the group with fibular autografts experienced shorter surgery times, less pain on the first postoperative day, faster healing, and better shoulder function scores over the following months compared to the group with only locking plates.

To analyze the fixation strength of cannulated screws fixation in the treatment of femoral neck fracture with posterior tilt due to insufficient reduction. Two sets of digital models of anatomical reduction and 15° tilting reduction were established by CT data. Each group of models was modeled with two different fixation methods.

Objectives: To assess the predictive value of endoscopic grading of gastric atrophy using Kimura-Takemoto classification, histological grading systems of operative link on gastritis assessment (OLGA) and operative link on gastric intestinal metaplasia (OLGIM) on risk stratification for early gastric cancer (EGC) and other potential risk factors of EGC.

Methods: A single-center, case-control study was retrospectively conducted including 68 patients with EGC treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection and 68 age- and sex-matched control subjects. Kimura-Takemoto classification, OLGA and OLGIM systems, and other potential risk factors were evaluated between the two groups.

Continuous cropping of the same crop leads to soil degradation and a decline in crop production, and these impacts could be mitigated through rotation cropping. Although crop rotation enhances soil fertility, microbial community diversity, and potato yield, its effects on the soil ecosystem multifunctionality (EMF) remain unclear. In the present research, we comparatively examined the effects of potato continuous cropping (PP) and rotation cropping [potato-oat rotation (PO) and potato-forage maize rotation (PFM)] on the soil EMF as well as the roles of keystone taxa, microbes abundance, and chemical properties in EMF improvement.

Background: Neer type II/bilateral distal clavicular fracture is an extremely rare injury combination, with few cases having been reported.

Case Presentation: This paper reports a case of polytrauma in a 16-year-old female following a road traffic accident. The radiographs revealed distal fractures of the bilateral clavicles (Neer type II), and an open reduction and internal fixation procedure was performed.

Background: Knowledge on the impact of the temporary kindergarten closure policy under COVID-19 in 2020 on childhood overweight and obesity is inadequate. We aimed to examine differences in rates of overweight and obesity from 2018 to 2021 among kindergarten children aged 3-7 years.

Methods: Overweight was defined as body mass index (BMI) > 1 standard deviation (SD) for age and sex, and obesity was defined as BMI > 2 SD for age and sex.

Natural killer (NK) cell therapy is emerging as a cancer treatment. NK cells are innate cytotoxic lymphocytes that act as first-line responders to kill target cells without prior encounters. NK cells recognize cancer cells, virus-infected cells, and other types of stressed cell through a reservoir of germline-encoded receptors.

Minimal persistent inflammation (MPI), the local inflammation that occurs after an acute type II immune response in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR), is responsible for airway hyperreactivity and the recurrence of AR. Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) play a crucial role in mucosal immune homeostasis, but the changes of ILC subsets in the MPI stage remain unclear. In this study, the levels of ILC-secreting cytokines in nasal lavages were analyzed from 19 AR patients and 8 healthy volunteers.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been indicated as the candidate factors to predict cancer prognosis. However, it is still unknown whether lncRNA combinations may be utilized for predicting overall survival (OS) of prostate cancer (PCa). The present work focused on selecting the potent OS-related lncRNA signature for PCa and studying its molecular mechanism to enhance the prognosis prediction accuracy.

Using the programmable RNA-sequence binding domain of the Pumilio protein, we FLAG-tagged Xist (inactivated X chromosome specific transcript) in live mouse cells. Affinity pulldown coupled to mass spectrometry was employed to identify a list of 138 candidate Xist-binding proteins, from which, Ssb (also known as the lupus autoantigen La) was validated as a protein functionally critical for X chromosome inactivation (XCI). Extensive XCI defects were detected in Ssb knockdown cells, including chromatin compaction, death of female mouse embryonic stem cells during in vitro differentiation and chromosome-wide monoallelic gene expression pattern.
